The Eating Sounds Were Super Irritating!
Revisado: 02-04-24
I understand putting emotion into the reading. It was very lively, but the reader really went overboard with all of the eating sounds in the microphone. I found myself saying over and over again, "Jeez, quit talking with your mouth full! " I almost quit listening because it was so disgusting and absolutely no reason for it. It was distracting and took away from the performance.

Historia
Actions have consequences—a lesson Scarlett Bernard is learning the hard way. As a “null,” Scarlett has always been able to negate the powers of the supernatural beings that surround her. But now her reckless decision to permanently change Eli from a werewolf to a human has left the Los Angeles werewolf pack in shambles, and upset the balance of power among the city’s supernatural factions. To make matters worse, Scarlett’s employers discover that a newly changed werewolf is running amok in the city. To catch the rogue werewolf, Scarlett will need help from both Eli and Detective Jesse Cruz of the LAPD…a situation that will force her to finally choose between them.

Author and narrator; an excellent pair

Ms. Olson has come up with another unique story that weaves seamlessly into the connected groups of series. Any McFadden is one of my few favorite narrators who brings the story to life.

Historia
As a null, Scarlett Bernard possesses a rare ability to counteract the supernatural by instantly neutralizing spells and magical forces. For years she has used her gift to scrub crime scenes of any magical traces, helping the powerful paranormal communities of Los Angeles stay hidden. But after LAPD detective Jesse Cruz discovered Scarlett's secret, he made a bargain with her: solve a particularly grisly murder case, and he would stay silent about the city's unearthly underworld.

Writer and narrator: another great success!
Revisado: 08-07-23
Melissa Olson is a refreshing author. I've listened to 5 of her books so far and each one is a unique and inspired story. So often when a writer writes a series, it almost feels like one long continuation. This book remained cohesive with the series, but very unique. As expected, this one was another great story. I can't say enough about Amy McFadden as the narrator. She brings the books to life like no other. I've always said the success of a narrated book is completely dependent on the narrator. Ms. Olson is smart to keep using Ms. McFadden. I do have to agree with another reader who said they were glad Jessie's accent was gone from the last book. Ms. McFadden did a great job with the accent, but I felt the character was just stronger without it.

Historia
When LA’s vampires, witches, and werewolves make a mess, they call Scarlett Bernard to clean it up. Her ability as a null erases all magical traces from anything—or anyone—that comes within ten feet of her, and keeps humans in the dark about the city’s paranormal activity. One night when she’s called to a grisly crime scene, Scarlett is spied by the all-too-human LAPD cop Jesse Cruz, who strikes up a deal with her: he’ll keep quiet about the supernatural underworld if she helps him crack the case.

Good story. Excellent narrator.
Revisado: 07-31-23
I have listened to many audio books and Amy McFadden is by far my favorite. The narrator makes or breaks the book. Ms. McFadden brings the book to life like no other. She's great with various accents. If the author writes that a character sighs or whispers or chuckles, she will speak it with a sigh or a whisper or a chuckle. If the narrator is no good, I will delete the book even within the first couple of minutes. It was a good story cleverly written and the narrator provides an immersive experience. My only complaint, and it is minor, is that she was reading a bit fast but in her later book readings she seems to have settled into a more relaxed reading pace.

Literally the worst
Revisado: 05-31-23
Oh my God. This was the worst book I have ever read or listened to. I could only get 3/4 of the way through. Never did figure out what the plot was really about. The book was boring and the narrator worse. Only two speaking characters in the story and the reader had the same dreary voice for both. Her voice just droned on. I had to delete it from my device and go watch TV just to keep from killing myself! The short summary of the story you read to learn what the book is about was far more interesting than the story.

Best Book and Narrator Combo I've encountered!
Revisado: 03-07-23
I knew Sherlock Holmes and Sir Conan Doyle would be a hit, but add in Charlton Griffin as narrator and it was a home run. I listen to it over and over again. It is unbelievable that one person narrated what was probably close to 100 characters throughout the entire collection, male and female voices, various accents, and made them all believable. I have prematurely returned so many audio books simply because I couldn't get past the voice of the author. It's really too bad for the authors whose books may have been a best seller, but I just couldn't get past the reader. This author and reader were gems and a pleasure to listen to over and over again. I HIGHLY recommend!

Good book. Great narrator.
Revisado: 02-24-23
The book was well written, interesting, and just as important, not a predictable, stale plot. For narrated books, the most important thing is the reader, who can make it break a book no matter how good it is. Terri Schnaubelt does a great job and is a narrator I look for.

The narrator ruined the book.
Revisado: 02-16-23
I tried, but couldn't get through the audio book. The reader's voice too whiney, forced, confusing, fake. Only made it as far as i did because at least the reading pace was comfortable. Reader made some of the female voices unnaturally airy (like Marilyn Monroe singing happy birthday to JFK) or like little girls - even for the cops. Men's voices either like little boys or air head men. I will avoid all books by this reader or even author because they generally use the same reader. Too bad for the author and book. Because the experience was so terrible I had to give it only one star - just because of the reader.

Great story. Excellent narrator.
Revisado: 08-26-22
Even the best book ever written will be a failure if the narrator isn't good. That person brings the book to life, but if you can't stand to listen to it, the author's talent will never be known. Al-Kaisi even reads with accents expected from the characters. The voice he used for Jimmy Two Eyes actually gave me nightmares!! Looking for more Koontz books read by Al-Kaisi. A great and talented team!
