Historia
Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a horrific accident when he was seven, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. When Charlie is seventeen, he meets a dog named Radar and her aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Sometimes strange sounds emerge from that shed.

Bloated, Pretentious, save the credit.
Revisado: 01-04-25
Very disappointed. Yes, King can write but his story telling is really bad in this one. It's like he wanted to tell one story and then changes the story to something else in the middle. I finished it to the end, but should have saved my credit. Stay with his older stuff.

In this dark and gritty collection - featuring short stories from Jim Butcher, Seanan McGuire, Kevin J. Anderson, and Rob Thurman - nothing is as simple as black and white, light and dark, good and evil.... Unfortunately, that's exactly what makes it so easy to cross the line.

Don't Waist a Credit - Also, Dresden isn't Here
Revisado: 07-09-24
The narrators were fine, but there was only one story that I really enjoyed and it was near the end, and it wasn't the story by Jim Butcher.
Typically the editor will put the stronger stories in the front, I couldn't disagree more with the story order of this anthology. Butcher's prolog was kind of "overblown" and a bit pretentious. There are other things that are a better use of your hard earned money.

Meandering Story and Not all that Interesting
Revisado: 07-27-23
Wisehart writes a meandering mass of backstory that gets tiresome quickly. Were it not for Reynolds performance, I wouldn't have stuck with it for as long as I did. I didn't want to finish. I've liked his other works.

Historia
The orphaned Elsie Camden learned as a girl that there were two kinds of wizards in the world: those who pay for the power to cast spells and those, like her, born with the ability to break them. But as an unlicensed magic user, her gift is a crime. Commissioned by an underground group known as the Cowls, Elsie uses her spellbreaking to push back against the aristocrats and help the common man. Elite magic user Bacchus Kelsey is one elusive spell away from his mastership when he catches Elsie breaking an enchantment. To protect her secret, Elsie strikes a bargain.

Historia
In this thrilling supernatural mystery, Sherlock Holmes and Count Dracula must join forces to banish a terrible enemy. Sherlock Holmes is dead. His body lies in a solitary grave on the Sussex Downs, England. But Dr. Watson survives and is now given permission to release tales in Sherlock’s “classified dossier”, those cases that are, dear listener, unbelievable - for their subject matter is of the most outré and grotesque nature.

If you must listen to this, go check it out at your local library. Performance was mediocre and the story predictable. Klaver brings nothing fresh or delightful to Holmes or Dracula.

Historia
No stranger to fear since meeting the unhuman Inspector Hobbes, Andy Caplet fears getting fired from his reporting job (again). His main concern, though, is a shady property developer who has designs on Sorenchester Common, and more annoyingly on his wife. Perhaps a trip to the mountains will help him relax, but this proves even more perilous with foul weather, inedible food, brigands, and a terrifying cruise. Fortunately, mountain leopards, Yetis and Flossy, the yak, take a shine to Andy.

Historia
1828. Robin Swift, orphaned by cholera in Canton, is brought to London by the mysterious Professor Lovell. There, he trains for years in Latin, Ancient Greek, and Chinese, all in preparation for the day he’ll enroll in Oxford University’s prestigious Royal Institute of Translation—also known as Babel. Babel is the world's center for translation and, more importantly, magic. Silver working—the art of manifesting the meaning lost in translation using enchanted silver bars—has made the British unparalleled in power, as its knowledge serves the Empire’s quest for colonization.
