Historia
Under the leadership of her fearless skipper, Captain Gene Fluckey, the Barb sank the greatest tonnage of any American sub in World War II. At the same time, the Barb did far more than merely sink ships-she changed forever the way submarines stalk and kill their prey.
This is a gripping adventure chock-full of "you-are-there" moments. Fluckey has drawn on logs, reports, letters, interviews, and a recently discovered illegal diary kept by one of his torpedomen.

Fantastic Accouting of the Barb Undet Fluckey's Command

For a non-fiction book, this story was hard to out down. It was nearly non-stop action, including exploits of the crew on shore. I'll likely listen to this book again, although I rarely do that. Highly recommended for anyone interested in WWII submarine warfare and/or fantastic military leaders.

London is burning. The Luftwaffe is coming. And Trip Gibson is in the fight of his life. From the award-winning author of the bestselling Journeyman Chronicles of the American Revolution and Sunward I’ve Climbed comes Frank A. Mason’s unforgettable sequel—a visceral, emotionally charged novel set in the fury of the Battle of Britain. It’s 1940. American pilot Trip Gibson has joined the Royal Air Force, determined to stop Hitler’s war machine from leveling Britain. But flying for King and Country turns out to be far more brutal than he imagined. In the chaos of dogfights over ...

Good Story, Lame Presentation.

This is the second in the Sunlit Silence series, which focuses on an American pilot flying for the RAF during the Battle of Britain and the Blitz. I'm not sure if there is a 3rd book in this series. This book is offered free to Audible clients. The story is good, but there are a few negatives, for me at least. I hated how the author used a downing in the Channel and a rescue by a fisherman and his daughter, for the protagonist, Trip, to recap the first book. It was a waste of my time, to be retold what I had just spent hours listening to. Another downside for me is that the protagonist is so dang perfect. What I dislike the most, though, is the AI narrator. The phrasing is terrible. The AI narrator does a complete injustice to pronouncing acronyms and technical terms, often making it difficult, to understand what is being said. I really got tired of hearing 'Jew'-87, 'Jew'-88, and 'Doe'-17. With those negatives out of the way, I have enjoyed the story, as it does a pretty nice job of giving the readers a feel for the airwar over Britain. I recommend this book to anyone with an interest in the RAF, and the Battle of Britain and the Blitz.

He’s tasted the thrill of war in the skies. He can’t stay grounded now. From the award-winning author of the bestselling Journeyman Chronicles of the American Revolution comes Frank A. Interesting Story. AI Narrator is aweful
Revisado: 02-19-25
The story is interesting, of a well-to-do protagonist as he makes his way to England, to join the RAF, as the Germans move through Poland and into France. The computer-voice is rather irrating, though, as the phrasing is often very odd, voice inflections are frequently at odd places in sentences, and technical aviation terms are misprounced (especially for numbers and aircraft models/variants). However, the computer-voice story is free through Auudible; so, I guess that I really can't complain too much. One usually gets what one pays for...
