Historia
Across the country women are being murdered by a killer who leaves no evidence, no fatal wounds, no signs of struggle, and no clues to a motive. They are, truly, perfect crimes. In fact, the only thing that links the victims is the man they all knew: Jack Reacher.

Not the best of Child
Revisado: 08-19-24
I have read all of the Lee Child Jack Reacher books but somehow missed this one. So I was excited to embark on a weekend with 16 hours of driving involved and looked forward to enjoying another Reacher novel. I couldn't have been more disappointed. The reader was awful, with attempts to create different voices for the various characters which was not only ineffective but down right annoying. Perhaps I have gotten so used to Dick Hill I was put off by a reader that was so different. I stuck it out but found the story line tedious it seemed to be written by someone else. Certainly not up to Lee Child standards.

Historia
Clete Purcel—private investigator, ex-member of the New Orleans Police Department, and war veteran with a hard shell and just a few soft spots—is Dave Robicheaux’s longtime friend and partner in detective work. But he has a troubled past. When Clete leaves his car at the local car wash, only to return to find it ransacked by a group of thugs tied to the drug trade from Mexican cartels to Louisiana, it feels personal—his grandniece died of a fentanyl overdose, and his fists curl when he thinks of the dealers who sold it.

Disappointed
Revisado: 07-18-24
I've been a James Lee Burke fan forever, read all of his books, some multiple times and enjoyed them thoroughly. I think every author that writes a character(s) in a series eventually comes to the point where the stories are a little played out and moves on to a different setting and character alignment. As much as I have enjoyed this storyline and characters I found myself thinking its about over. For those who are reading these novels for the first time and this is the first book may find it entertaining and enjoy the read. However, while most of the previous books included some form of mystical reference or interaction which was fine, I thought it was way over the top in this novel and greatly distracted from the main plot. Way too many "Joan of Arc" sightings and time-shifted transformations for me. Will Patton did an excellent job as always, one of my favorite readers.
In all still a JLB fan but will be looking for a new set of characters and storyline.

More of the same...
Revisado: 07-20-23
After reading countless Alex Cross books, I became bored with the same characters (Cross, Sampson and Cross's family) and repetitive themes. Further the endless interaction between Cross and his family (sappy names for his mother and children) trying to ensure we know Cross is a devoted parent and loving father. It really became too much since it was repeated over and over in every book, often taking away from the main storyline. Occasionally the bad guy would target some of Cross's family, I suppose, to add some justification for devoting so much of the book to them in the first place. In any event after a dozen or so Alex Cross books I had enough and discontinued any further attempts to find value in this series.
So I was excited to read the previews indicating Patterson was inventing a new character with, hopefully, more interesting storylines. It was with that hope, I ordered "Obsessed" only to discover it was really just another Alex Cross books with the names of the protagonists changed. Same homicide stories, same attempts at humor that fail miserably, same sappy interplay with family members taking up way too much of the novel. So, sorry James our literary relationship is over, we're through, don't despair, its me not you, but we are done.

Historia
Jesse Stone is back on the job after a stint in rehab, and the road to recovery is immediately made bumpy by a series of disturbing and apparently racially motivated crimes, beginning with the murder of an African American woman. Then, Jesse's own deputy Alisha - the first black woman hired by the Paradise police force - becomes the target of a sophisticated frame-up. As he and his team work tirelessly to unravel the truth, he has to wonder if this is just one part of an even grander plot, one with an endgame more destructive than any of them can imagine.

End of a series
Revisado: 04-18-23
Have always like the Jessie Stone novels and the movie adaptions (Selleck was perfect). But it appears it is coming to an end. Story was tired, predictable, uninteresting and the characters are pretty played out at this point, even Jessie has become boring at this point.. Maybe one too many? Time to move on.

Just Ok
Revisado: 04-13-23
Story moved along ok, reader was fine. Overall an acceptable book. My major complaint (and it is a personal preference so it might not bother others) is that I prefer to read books where I like or at least can tolerate the principal characters. For example, I like Jack Reacher, Walt Longmire, Jesse Stone and can tolerate Harry Bosch and read all and enjoy. As much as I wanted to, I could not like and at times found the character of Rachel Waller, intolerable. I found her dialogue with McAvoy (who she supposedly has an affair with) to be often acerbic and short which led me to label her a "whiny, witch" who I wouldn't put up with personally for more than 10 minutes. The lack of, what I would consider to be normal dialogue between two people with a personal relationship created an uncomfortable read for me. Maybe it won't bother others.

Just aweful
Revisado: 07-14-22
I was looking for a new action series that I could stay with through a number of books...I still am. This book was terrible from beginning to end. The dialogue was embarrassingly stupid, the plot completely unrealistic, and was bogged down with needless details that added nothing to the storyline. Don't go here.

If there had been no cover-up of Robert Kennedy's complicity in the murder of Marilyn Monroe in 1962 and he had been prosecuted based on compelling evidence at the time, the assassination of JFK by Bobby's enemies would not have happened - changing the course of history and preventing the murder of media icon Dorothy Kilgallen.

Way too long
Revisado: 07-01-21
This book is over 21 hours. I love long books and usually will not take any less than 6 hrs. long. However, if the author had eliminated the duplicate and triplicate and quadruplicate information, this could have been an 8 hr. book and much more effective. He does assemble interesting and thought provoking information about each victim and makes pretty compelling scenarios for each assassination. But lose the repetition, by the end I was feeling like Collateral Damage!!

50/50
Revisado: 06-17-21
I have to disagree with many (most) of the other reviews. There were aspects of the book that were excellent, Patterson's story telling is first rate, but the overall story is so unbelievable and predictable it lost it for me. The main character (Keating) came off as somewhat rude and overbearing and the Texas accent (while probably genuine) was grating. The action sequences were good and maintained a level of interest but the last minute "too good to believe" events (blackmailing the president, lining up the National Guard transport, the Tunisian Black Hawk etc) were lame. Overall a 50/50 some good, some disappointing.
