Historia
Two retired Texas Rangers, Captains Woodrow Call and Augustus "Gus" McCrae, lead a cattle drive from the small town of Lonesome Dove to the unsettled Montana territories. On their grueling journey, they are joined by Joshua Deets, a Black scout and former Ranger, Jake Spoon, a fugitive, and Newt Dobbs, a 17-year-old boy who may have family ties to Call. Richly authentic, beautifully written, always dramatic, Lonesome Dove will make listeners laugh and weep, dream and remember.

Riveting story
Revisado: 05-15-24
I can't believe it took me so long to get to this book. I couldn't stop listening and didn't want it to end even after 36+ hours.
The narrator does a wonderful job with voices, accents, and pacing.

Historia
The mother of five, Anne never has a dull moment in her home, and, now with a new baby on the way and insufferable Aunt Mary Maria visiting - and wearing out her welcome - her life is full to bursting. Still, Mrs. Doctor can't think of any place she'd rather be than her own beloved Ingleside - that is, until the day she begins to worry that her adored Gilbert doesn't love her anymore. But how could that be? She may be a little older, but she's still the same irrepressible, irreplaceable redhead.

Lovely Classic Story
Revisado: 05-03-24
The whole series has been a favorite for decades. There is insight into human character in these stories that lasts them stand the test of time and allows me to get value out of rereading no matter how old I get and how many times I've read it.
The narration here is disappointing. It's read with a flat tone and rather monotonous cadence like a student reading aloud in class. The character voices are nuanced and well done. However, the flat intonation sounds like someone reading words without really understanding what's being said.
In addition, the narrator seems to stumble over long words, and she also either frequently misspeaks or is reading obvious typos instead of correcting. It gets really aggravating by the end. I'm going to look for a different audio version.

Historia
Melville’s epic tale of one man versus a great white whale will delight Melville devotees as well as those who have yet to sail on this adventure in this mesmerizing new recording read by Jonathan Epstein. The mountain whose whale-like shape first gave Melville the idea of writing Moby Dick rests in the Berkshire Hills, Massachusetts, a short drive away from The Alison Larkin Presents recording studio. At the end of the recording, Larkin interviews Jonathan Epstein and recording engineer Galen Wade about the experience recording the great novel.

Masterful
Revisado: 04-23-24
Jonathan Epstein does an absolutely brilliant job with this book. His accents and dialects are spot on, but most importantly, he clearly understands what Melville was writing and why. The greatness of Melville's work comes through in how engaging the narration is. Melville is tackling the most deep and mysterious themes of human nature. In order to do this, he writes a story that includes keen, scientific observations of the details of the world and of life. Melville's way of dancing back and forth from the action of the story to scientific descriptions of whaling and then back to musing on human nature needs a Shakespearean actor to bring out the breadth of the subject. This production has found that narrator who reads the American Shakespeare in a hugely engaging way. I could not have loved this production more

Historia
The company of the Ring is torn asunder. Frodo and Sam continue their journey alone down the great River Anduin - alone, that is, save for the mysterious creeping figure that follows wherever they go. This continues the classic tale begun in The Fellowship of the Ring, which reaches its awesome climax in The Return of the King.

Voice virtuoso
Revisado: 01-29-24
The story, unsurprisingly, belongs among the great classics. It's gripping in and of itself, and the overarching warning about the evils of the pursuit of power is timeless.
Andy Serkis reads like he was born to narrate this book. Even as an admirer of his performance in the movie, I was amazed by the masterful narration. The flexibility and power of his voice allows him to perform the entire cast of characters like an ensemble cast. He makes each voice sound completely believable. The reading is unhurried and savors the language and drama of the story. I enjoyed every second of this and can't wait to listen to the third book.

If only we'd listened back then
Revisado: 06-30-22
Even though all the essays in this collection were written nearly 40 years ago, the topics are every bit as relevant today. In fact, the ideas chosen have proved to be fundamental and his words prophetic. It's very interesting (and mostly sad) to listen to how Sowell analyzed these issues and warned about prevailing trends. It makes me glad to know we have this voice of reason among us.
The calm, smooth narration is excellent.

A wonderful Old classic, well read
Revisado: 01-28-22
This is an old favorite, and it's a shame that it's probably lesser known in this series. This narration is excellent, well read by Grace Conlin, who has a beautiful, well modulated voice.
