Historia
If it’s navel-gazing you’re after, you’ve come to the wrong place; ditto treacly self-examination. Rather, his observations turn outward: a fight between two men on a bus, a fight between two men on the street, pedestrians being whacked over the head or gathering to watch as a man considers leaping to his death. There’s a dirty joke shared at a book signing, then a dirtier one told at a dinner party - lots of jokes here. Plenty of laughs.

Historia
At the end of the Second World War, Cyril Conroy combines luck and a single canny investment to begin an enormous real estate empire, propelling his family from poverty to enormous wealth. His first order of business is to buy the Dutch House, a lavish estate in the suburbs outside of Philadelphia. Meant as a surprise for his wife, the house sets in motion the undoing of everyone he loves. The story is told by Cyril’s son Danny, as he and his older sister, the brilliantly acerbic and self-assured Maeve, are exiled from the house where they grew up by their stepmother.

Historia
Make sure the kids aren’t around! Just because you’re a grown-up doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the art of the children’s bedtime story. Nick Offerman presents this collection of 12 short stories written in the style of a classic kids' tale, but with a decidedly dark and adult approach. What really happened after Snow White died, from the perspective of the one medically trained dwarf? A naive wizard professor reports back from the trenches of an underprivileged school of magic. And much more!

Bring the fun back into running & movement!
Revisado: 05-02-19
I have been running & racing for decades (38 years) and burned out a year ago after a 10k race. I bought a bike & threw myself into biking for fun. I found joy in every ride until a rainy crash that shook my confidence. In time, I longed for the simplicity of "low equipment" exercise and the benefits, physically & mentally of regular aerobic exercise. Reading this audio book has revived my desire to run, this time for fun. The low carb lifestyle is already been my mode for 8 years but was surprised to find it embraced here. Delighted! I have begun running again!

In her phenomenally popular essays and long-running Tumblr blog, Roxane Gay has written with intimacy and sensitivity about food and body, using her own emotional and psychological struggles as a means of exploring our shared anxieties over pleasure, consumption, appearance, and health. As a woman who describes her own body as "wildly undisciplined", Roxane understands the tension between desire and denial, between self-comfort and self-care.

I am not a Sci Fi fan as a rule, but the excellent narration helped me stick with it. Fantastic story gave me plenty to contemplate. I read one book by the author 40 years ago (required) and didn't understand how gifted she was until now.

Great Performance but it was Agony for me!
Revisado: 01-16-19
It's a PLAY! I guess I should know by now that I shouldn't try to listen to gritty plays by audio. It is well acted, and well written but I cannot develop much empathy for this character when 90% of the time he is acting the sociopath. I know he is damaged by his childhood and for that, I keep feeling empathy but his behavior and inner dialog is so warped, that I cannot sustain anything but revulsion for him. In an audio version, there is no facial expressions or body language to go with the dialog and I end up just terribly frightened that people like this exist in the world (even if fictional). I understand a play is short and suppose to give you an electric jolt but it is too much for me and will haunt me instead of cause me to chuckle years out.

Good Escapism for Grown Ups Tired of Reality
Revisado: 12-17-18
It was good for me at the time. The book is still worth listening to when you need a predictable story where Good overcomes evil. If I listened with kids, I would want to explain the context of things here because we are pretty far removed from mid 20th century england and the magical time of which the story takes place.
