Historia
Lily hasn’t always had it easy, but that’s never stopped her from working hard for the life she wants. She’s come a long way from the small town where she grew up—she graduated from college, moved to Boston, and started her own business. And when she feels a spark with a gorgeous neurosurgeon named Ryle Kincaid, everything in Lily’s life seems too good to be true.

Almost Returned It
Revisado: 08-31-24
It has been a while since I was motivated to review a book. I’m surprised at the fact that I’m reviewing a Colleen Hoover book. I’d written her off as a writer I chose to read, because of another book I started, but returned. I’m not a fan of “bodice ripping”, and along with that, I thought the plot in this one dragged in the beginning. But, I’m glad I stayed. Because the author actually lived through domestic violence, she excellently portrayed the nuances between those emotions of love and hate. Sadly sometimes, they dwell right next to each other in the lives of people. Ms. Hoover helped to explain just how difficult it is to break the cycle. The stereotypical abuser is the person who is blatantly abusive, a cur of human being, that anybody would find detestable. That’s why society places all the responsibility on the abused person to rectify his/her situation. It’s never that simple. Thank you Ms. Hoover, for doing a service to the real dilemma of domestic violence. It’s never simple.

But when a woman is pulled from the Mississippi River, barely alive, things in the office take a personal turn. Don’t Let Go of this Narrator
Revisado: 05-25-21
My husband liked this Harlan Coben story better than I did, but we loved Steven Weber’s narration. He might be the the most expressive, animated narrator we have ever heard. He turned Mr. Coben’s work into a one man dramatic reading. Thank you!

Dean Koontz did not disappoint with this final book of the Jane Hawk series. Elizabeth Rodgers brought Jane to life as we sat on the edge of our seats to learn just how all this would be resolved. Totally engrossing and enjoyable. Thank you!

Historia
The bloody Battle of Tippecanoe was only the beginning. It’s 1811, and President James Madison has ordered the destruction of Shawnee warrior Chief Tecumseh’s alliance of tribes in the Great Lakes region. But while General William Henry Harrison would win this fight, the armed conflict between Native Americans and the newly formed United States would rage on for decades.

Sad
Revisado: 02-13-21
At this time in history, where there is great focus on systemic racism, this book, in violent detail, illustrates the terrible treatment of Native Americans. Nobody, not government or society, talks about this sad history. We owe it to them and to this country, to revisit the conditions on reservations and explore better solutions to right our historical wrongs. Thank you, Mr. O’Reilly.

Historia
December 1940. As German bombs fall on Southampton, England, the city's residents flee to the surrounding villages. In Upton village, amid the chaos, newly married Ellen Parr finds a girl asleep, unclaimed at the back of an empty bus. Little Pamela, it seems, is entirely alone. Ellen has always believed she does not want children, but when she takes Pamela into her home, the child cracks open the past Ellen thought she had escaped and the future she and her husband, Selwyn, had dreamed for themselves. As the war rages on, love grows where it was least expected, surprising them all.

Best Narrated Book I’ve Heard
Revisado: 06-12-20
I’m left with so many thoughts of this book, but most of them shared in other reviews. I’ll just say that when it ends, you just want to sit with these characters a little longer, just like the ending of a wonderful movie; sitting in the dark, as the credits roll by, lost in that moment. I think for me, Ms. Liardet presented one of the most clear depictions of a setting that I’ve read, without ever being cumbersome. The beautiful narrators then brought it all to life. Finally, it seems to me that much contemporary literature today has a plethora of characters with almost no redeeming qualities. In these difficult times, where we seem to be surrounded by so much unkindness, this book provides us with a rich array of humanity’s best. It will go down as one of my favorites.

Historia
On Christmas Eve, 2017, Tess Henry was found dead in a dumpster in Las Vegas. Tess was a 28-year-old new mother, a former honor roll student, and a high school basketball player from suburban Roanoke, Virginia, a place ravaged by the national opioid crisis. The New York Times best-selling author Beth Macy chronicled Tess and her mom, Patricia, through Tess' harrowing, years-long battle to recover from heroin addiction in her award-winning book Dopesick: Dealers, Doctors, and the Drug Company That Addicted America.

Tragic
Revisado: 05-02-20
This story, or maybe I should say, account, is riveting, shocking, frustrating, appalling, and confusing. How can our country continually lose its people to opioids? Can’t such a developed country find a way to stop this? My heart hurts for all the families and their loved ones, who are impacted by this problem. Thanks to Beth Macy for putting a real face on this issue, and for Tess’ valiant mom, who today, is creating a legacy for Tess and for her son by helping others.

Historia
From Martin Clark - praised by Entertainment Weekly as "our best legal-thriller writer" - comes a wickedly clever, tenderhearted, and intricately plotted novel about a hard-luck lawyer's refusal to concede defeat, even as fate, the court system, and a gang of untouchable con artists conspire against him.

Excellent Representation of the Setting
Revisado: 03-14-20
Martin Clark brilliantly tells a story of a smart underdog lawyer, who by the way, has his very own dog. We live near Stuart, VA, and have relatives that live there. Mr. Clark was true to his home in his portrayal of the locals, as well as the area. He had us rooting for his anti-hero all the way. We will certainly want to read more by this author, as well as his narrator. Thank you!

The ending detail of the father, I did not expect...
Revisado: 11-03-19
This story received 5 stars from me because it was completely compelling. It’s an age old story, yet it illustrates that the answers are never easy, and no matter how much the participants wish it, the past cannot be corrected. It also left me with a renewed sadness at how so many children fall victim to the messy lives that their parents create. Children are innocent, and every single one deserves loving people to squire them through life, but in this world, this is often not the case. The pain that this causes cannot be undone. But, possibly someone will read this and undo a wrong before it devastates a child. That is my hope upon hearing this story. The author did a beautiful recounting of his family’s story. Thank you.
