Magnificent performance by the narrator.

The story is reasonably entertaining even if difficult to imagine that anyone could be such a hot mess as the female protagonist here, but her internal dialogue is excellent and the narrator is beyond spectacular.

Narrator is the worst.

I have long been a devoted fan of this series and, while deeply saddened by Patrick’s death and the loss of his adventures his writings added to my life, I was looking forward to even this brief renewal. But the narrator’s inability to provide any difference in timbre, accent or cadence to the various characters” dialogue rendered this story unfathomable and a huge disappointment.

Dox’s dialogue is always delightful.

Reasonable storyline

Reasonable storyline but absolutely stupid and immature characters with stilted, awkward, unrealistic dialogue. And the inane “writers notes” at the end of each episode will keep your finger on the fast forward.

Disappointing

As a pilot and a sailor, I enjoy the Chase Fulton series and thought I’d listen to these “Russian” series while waiting for the next Chase book. Couldn’t even finish this one. The Gwen Davis character sounds and acts like a prepubescent teen girl, the Mankiller character is only a year or two older, and the agent White character may be only 4 or 5 years old. The narrator’s valley girl delivery makes the experience excruciating.

Very poor editing

The story is reasonably interesting but a screw up in the sound editing in chapter 43 inserts unrelated dialogue from a much earlier event that sips out important details in setting up what ends up being a disappointing climax.

A novel to stand by Wind of War

An epic tale of a soldier’s life, his dedication and commitment and journey into the Mexican American War, and then into WWI, through the years and events from Armistice into Pearl Harbor and then WWIi and all the way to Vietnam by an author who can truly write. Very worth the time.
