I loved the blend of characters, the personalities were each individual and unique. I feel like they are my friends and I now want to go to a jazz club with them. The setting and time periods were well written. I really enjoyed this book.

What was that?

I was all in and then.. an unfinished ending. I can use my imagination, But that kinda makes me mad.... There certainly were twists and friends along the way that kept me engaged, and the big twist at the end, but it's insanely incomplete!!

Historia
Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a horrific accident when he was seven, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. When Charlie is seventeen, he meets a dog named Radar and her aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Sometimes strange sounds emerge from that shed.

I was pleasantly surpluses by this book. The depth of the characters, the complete realism of this fantasy world is uncanny. Outside of the amount of swear words, I loved this book!!

Historia
When Lily Jacobs was born, she inherited Fazire - a genie. Her family had three wishes and they'd only ever used one so Fazire was stuck in the human world. This worked since he'd become a member of the family anyway. Even with a genie, Lily's young life wasn't perfect. To escape the kids making her miserable at school, Lily buried herself in romance novels. One day, when the teasing was just too much, she used one of her wishes.

Not what I expected
Revisado: 06-21-22
I really loved this story overall. A bit dragged out, and the genie wasn't as Prevalent as I expected. There was also more bad language than I expected but it was not overly blatant. I would recommend this book for sure but not around young kiddos.

Hard to follow
Revisado: 09-09-21
The voice actor did a great job although changed the pronunciation of the ship maidens name a number of times. I understand what the book was about, but it took a long time to make the connections and understand what was happening. The writing was so expressive though that I had to keep going.

Historia
Patricia Campbell's life has never felt smaller. Her ambitious husband is too busy to give her a goodbye kiss in the morning, her kids have their own lives, her senile mother-in-law needs constant care, and she's always a step behind on thank-you notes and her endless list of chores. The one thing she has to look forward to is her book club, a close-knit group of Charleston women united by their love of true crime and paperback fiction. At these meetings they're as likely to talk about the Manson family as they are marriage, motherhood, and neighborhood gossip.

A bit long winded
Revisado: 07-14-21
Overall I liked this book. I got frustrated with the storyline because the main character always seemed to be on the outside of the group and never an actual part of it. When the main character appeared to have mental issues everyone treated her with disrespect instead of caring. There is no way when someone wakes up from from a suicide attempt that their spouse would start yelling at them.... Especially when they are supposed to be in the mental health business. However the way the vampire is portrayed is quite interesting.

Her beauty almost certainly saved her from the rising Nazi party and led to marriage with an Austrian arms dealer. Underestimated in everything else, she overheard the Third Reich's plans while at her husband's side, understanding more than anyone would guess. She devised a plan to flee in disguise from their castle, and the whirlwind escape landed her in Hollywood. She became Hedy Lamarr, screen star.
