Not my favorite Zero book
Revisado: 02-25-21
I can agree with some of the remarks from other reviews. This story spends too much time on his mental problems to the degree that it becomes the main storyline and the subject of the criminal plot against the country is underdeveloped and weak. While I understand the important part that his troubled mind plays in the character ever since the beginning, it feels unrealistic and almost impossible for him to have fallen so far from the capable agent in earlier books to the almost paralyzed man with incapacitating mental breakdowns.
I think earlier books did a better job of weaving a storyline of intrigue and danger while still portraying the vulnerable humanity of the character. Perhaps this was a necessary chapter in the whole series and certainly necessary for the reader to finish this book if intending to continue the series. I can only hope that going forward the stories focus a little more balance on the character and plot of the villains as well as Agent Zero.
And it was also disappointing to see the weak character that Maria had become. Instead of the strong and decisive agent I picture an old lady in a suit behind a desk who can't even fight off villains anymore. But maybe that was the intention and with the end of the story it plans to point her back in the right direction.

Historia
On his last combat deployment, Lt. Cmdr. James Reece's entire team was killed in an ambush that also claimed the lives of the aircrew sent in to rescue them. But when those dearest to him are murdered on the day of his homecoming, Reece discovers that this was not an act of war by a foreign enemy but a conspiracy that runs to the highest levels of government. Now, with no family and free from the military's command structure, Reece applies the lessons that he's learned in over a decade of constant warfare toward revenge.

After burning through other series with the likes of Scott Harvath, Mitch Rapp, Pike Logan, Jack Ryan and Jack Jr etc I was excited to start this new series. It definitely lived up to my expectations. This skilled & patriotic operator with a tormented soul carrying out beautiful vengence on domestic villains high in the government, military and private sector. looking forward to the next book!

Historia
A toxic presidential election is underway in an America already badly weakened by internal divisions. While politicians focus entirely on maintaining their own power, ISIS kidnaps a brilliant French microbiologist and forces him to begin manufacturing anthrax. Slickly produced videos chronicling his progress and threatening an imminent attack are posted to the internet, intensifying the hysteria gripping the United States.

With return of our favorite characters in a current world, very real scenario the author does not disappoint. I spent the last year going through the full series and have two or three that are my favorite and this latest installment is right there with them.

Historia
North Korea has one of the world's largest standing armies, capable of unleashing a massive arsenal of chemical and nuclear weapons. With an unstable government, led by the Kim dynasty under absolute dictator Kim Jong Un, North Korea more closely resembles an organized crime ring than a real nation-state. Millions live on the edge of starvation while Pyongyang's ruthless generals, crooked bureaucrats, and vicious secret police wage a covert war against each other to expand their rival fiefdoms.

Revisado: 02-12-19
Having just read the previous novel in this series, Red Phoenix, I felt I should check this one out. It was a decent continuation and nice to have some of the same main characters, although I wouldn't give it quite as high marks as the previous installment. Not quite as much intense action but still enough excitement to make it worth a read.
It took me awhile to get over the uncomfortable voice of the narrator but maybe it was extra stark since I just completed the previous novel whose reader was extremely different and more relatable to other performers I've known with the Tom Clancy and Patrick Robinson series.

decent but not the best of the Jack Ryan jr. serie
Revisado: 04-29-18
I've been through all the Jack Ryan and Jack Ryan jr. series and this was probably my least favorite. Not quite as grasping and engaging, it's lacking the usual amount of complex and simultaneous storylines and suspense that you see in other Tom Clancy novels. Perhaps the complete lack of the usual characters from the campus or Ryan Sr. that we've become used to left a void. Still a decent read and by far one of the shorter books it's worth checking out if you've been through the rest of the novels. And as usual the narration is on point and faultless.

Historia
Silent at less than five knots and capable of a massive nuclear warhead punch, it's the 240-foot Russian Kilo-class submarine. Strapped for hard cash, the Russians have produced 10 new Kilos for Beijing. The Chinese have already received three of the subs, and now the last seven are ready to be delivered - a code-red situation the Pentagon must avert. Armed with a full strike force of Kilos, China can cripple American interests, shatter the balance of power, and successfully achieve the unthinkable in the Pacific Rim.

One of the two best titles by the author
Revisado: 05-29-17
Captivating with plenty of action. Multiple storie lines within the book led by well well-built, towering characters. And just when you thought everything has been accomplished and the book is going to end the author takes you deep for another mission.
