Historia
Max was murdered, but now he is mostly over it. Living on earth as a recent college graduate, he can still perfectly recall his past life on the fantasy world of Albion before that. He'd been hailed as the "Hero of the World" after crawling his way up from poverty, eventually enjoying great fame and luxury. But on mana-starved Earth, he's just a guy.

It's not bad. The story grew on me in the second half. The MC has advantages, but he isn't too op. I like that he isn't a goody two shoes.

Where power is measured in cards, Arthur stands among the elite as a Legendary card wielder now forever linked to a frighteningly powerful dragon. Before that can happen, a chance encounter whisks Arthur and Brixaby away to a place they never thought possible: A new dragon hive outside the kingdom. This Free Hive doesn't suffer from the scourge that's infected the rest of the planet. It's a place where crafting using card powers is king.

Just doesn't make sense
Revisado: 04-03-24
Spoilers!!!!!!,
Read at your own risk
So the mind singer is still on the prowl, and it turns out she has some legendary cards. Now for some reason the mind singer uses non legendary dragons to host the legendary cards and use their powers. In one scene she has several dragons line up to use a card one after another because the higher tier card literally kills them from the inside out in a matter of seconds. Noe my question is... why. She has control of just as many humans. Humans who are not going to disintegrate from the slightest use of a legendary card.
So... why is she using dragons? it just doesn't make sense.

Take the BAD REVIEWS with a grain of salt
Revisado: 03-04-24
It's slow, but i personally prefer it that way. The series has never been about racing to the peak of cultivation -- progression? yes. instantaneous progression? no. it was always more about the gritty cultivation and fighting. The 12th book has plenty of that. If you want drama, teamwork, and relationships, check out HE WHO FIGHTS WITH MONSTERS. if you want an MC to be overpowered by book 12, read the CRADLE series. If you want a blasted nether beast in a slugfest for 20 hours straight, defiance of the fall is for you.

Having escaped the Orom's prison, Zac has finally returned to Earth. Much has changed during his years off-world, with war brewing in the Zecia Sector. Struggle is the System's mandate, where the strong thrive, and the weak suffer. Zac and the Atwood Empire are racing against time to accumulate the power needed to survive. With danger comes opportunity, and all clues point toward the chaotic Million Gates Territory. That's where the invaders are hiding, and that's where Ogras is trapped. But first, Zac needs a spaceship.

Not a fanboy, just an enjoyer
Revisado: 08-11-23
So, the books could be longer /more meaty, but don't put too much weight in the people saying it's filler. The recent books are in a sense "filler", but if they weren't, the series would already be over. If you liked the last book, you will like this one as well. There are plenty of trilogies out there with concise plot and wonderful tied up endings. This is not one of those. Someone compared defiance of the fall to the anime bleach, and that is an apt comparison. Some people hate bleach because it meanders forever, but others love that very aspect.

plain mc with a plain story
Revisado: 07-24-23
There is no sense of urgency. If you like slice of life manga, you might enjoy this book. Travis Baldree does a fantastic job, but the materiel is subpar.
Also, there is very little magic, if that makes any sense. You could remove cultivation from this book altogether, and it would be a normal martial arts wuxia book. There really isn't any chi stuff or cultivation going on... mostly just martial arts styles and daily training with the sword. Not my thing...
First book was much better. Cultivation is about discovery and progress. Not doing mundane jobs to secure a revenue stream.

Meh. BoC was better
Revisado: 06-26-23
It's not bad. just, not notable either. The MC is a bit too whimsical, even for popcorn xianxia. The system isn't well explained, which is usually fine for a cultivation novel. But one of the main plot points for this book is the MC's scientific application of his previous life's memories, which falls immensely short. Everything significant the MC does is based on intuition and instinct, nothing remotely similar to science.
How did he find make his cultivation art?
intuition.
How did he heal his friends broken core?
Intuition.
What is the giant secret behind the whole world that nobody seems to know?
...That life and death are interconnected...
That's it. Not very profound at all. I frankly think the book would have been better off without all the pseudoscience nonsense. Being slightly perceptive isn't science, it's called common sense and anyone can do it.
Also this is just a personal preference, but I hate deus ex machina. I much prefer advantage stemming from a mixture of chance and personal effort. However, this book feels very much like everything is handed to MC by divine happenstance.
He exists solely on the good graces of an elder who shrouds his future. The spirit companion of that elder gives a super pill to the MC's spirit companion on a whim. The entire world is sentient and speaks to MC directly about the path that only he can take... to save the world. It's basically a "chosen hero" fantasy deep down under all the cultivation.

After his town is put to the sword and the children are taken to replace the fallen, an old man is out for revenge. He’s ready to fail at the most difficult challenge in the world: cultivation. Too corrupted to even take the first steps, the sly old elder simply agreed with those who told him that it was impossible. Then he quietly ignored them, rubbed his hands together, and started anyway.

Not great
Revisado: 06-25-23
Disclaimer: review contains slight spoilers.
So firstly, the book is not a dungeon series. In fact, the title is misleading on purpose. The author Dakota Krout has previously published a series called The Divine Dungeon. These books are not from that series. They are from the Artorian Archives. I knew this from the start, since I sought out the omnibus three pack on purpose to save two credits. However, I think it's bad practice to piggyback off a previously popular book in such a predatory way, even if it is your own book you are piggybacking on. Readers be warned. There is no dungeon crunching in this book.
Secondly, everything is just childish and full of black and white. Half of the book is just the MC Artorian fixing everyone's problems. He acts like a trauma counselor or a psychiatrist to literally everyone he meets. This isn't so bad if the reaction was realistic. In real life, it's abrasive and rude to try and fix everyone around you. But for some reason, everyone around him is just an edgy teenager who also needs a shoulder to cry on. They just spill their worries on him and everything is better. Oh how nice. All the MC had to do is force the backstory out of them like he knew he could...
Yeah, the MC is subtly egotistical. For a reader who likes the nuances of character interaction, this book was a slap in the face. It is very similar to "hugs and kisses can save the day" type books. Just because this book has death in it, doesn't make it mature.

City builder and airy narrator
Revisado: 06-06-23
So the narrator change wasn't great. I don't know what led to a different narrator, but at this rate, just change it again. The current narrator is doesn't have the same flow as the last.
Other than that, the story wasn't bad, but I hope the next has a bit less city builder and more adventure.
