Historia
Dellarobia Turnbow is a restless farm wife who gave up her own plans when she accidentally became pregnant at 17. Now, after a decade of domestic disharmony on a failing farm, she encounters a shocking sight: a silent, forested valley filled with what looks like a lake of fire. She can only understand it as a cautionary miracle, but it sparks a raft of other explanations from scientists, religious leaders, and the media.

Historia
Long ago when the Earth was flat, beautiful, indifferent Gods lived in the airy Upperearth realm above; curious, passionate demons lived in the exotic Underearth realm below; and mortals were relegated to exist in the middle. Azhrarn, Lord of the Demons and the Darkness, was the one who ruled the night, and many mortal lives were changed because of his cruel whimsy. And yet, Azhrarn held inside his demon heart a profound mystery which would change the very fabric of the Flat Earth forever.

Narration ruins the book
Revisado: 08-22-22
This book is so good! But the narrator speaks like a BBC news castor reading a teleprompter. It’s just… unbearable.

Oof, idk y’all
Revisado: 06-21-22
I understand that the purpose of this book is to drive home the violence and bleakness of slavery, but man the narratives that the author gives to these women just feel cruel and borderline hateful beyond that. Like just the descriptions of black women’s bodies are overly brutal and crude, even when coming from their own internal dialogue or the dialogue of other black women??? So much so that it’s distracting.
Idk y’all, set & setting gives these women absolutely nothing and it kind of feels like the author is kicking them while they’re down.
