Historia
Lakshmi is a thirteen-year-old girl who lives with her family in a small hut on a mountain in Nepal. Though she is desperately poor, her life is full of simple pleasures, like playing hopscotch with her best friend from school and having her mother brush her hair by the light of an oil lamp. But when the harsh Himalayan monsoons wash away all that remains of the family's crops, Lakshmi's stepfather says she must leave home and take a job to support her family.

Poetic and Sad
Revisado: 08-29-17
This story was very artfully done. The words are like prose but still tell you the full story. The narrators American accent is funny and Nepalese sounds Irish at times, but overall I really enjoyed this audiobook

Historia
Britt-Marie can't stand mess. She eats dinner at precisely the right time and starts her day at six in the morning because only lunatics wake up later than that. And she is not passive-aggressive. Not in the least. It's just that sometimes people interpret her helpful suggestions as criticisms, which is certainly not her intention. But at 63, Britt-Marie has had enough. She finally walks out on her loveless 40-year marriage and finds a job in the only place she can: Borg, a small, derelict town devastated by the financial crisis.

Historia
Each day we face a barrage of images and messages from society and the media telling us who, what, and how we should be. We are led to believe that if we could only look perfect and lead perfect lives, we'd no longer feel inadequate. So most of us perform, please, and perfect, all the while thinking, What if I can't keep all of these balls in the air? Why isn't everyone else working harder and living up to my expectations? What will people think if I fail or give up? When can I stop proving myself?

Don't be distracted
Revisado: 10-21-16
I think I need to listen to this again. She has a great personality and the topic is easy to relate to, but it's not terribly engaging so I found that even minor road hazards totally distracted me and I had to rewind. For me perhaps this would have been better as a read than a listen.

Fascinating
Revisado: 10-16-16
I don't know if this is the first tell all of the playboy mansion, and man, but I found it surprising and interesting. I assumed it wasn't all roses as they portrayed in the tv show but certainly had no idea it was this toxic. I have to imagine it was cathartic for Holly to write this book. I do wonder the truth behind all she said about herself personally. She painted a very sweet, innocent, kind and easy character of herself. It's worth the listen

A survey of the quirks and quandaries of the English language, focusing on our strange and wonderful grammar. Why do we say "I am reading a catalog" instead of "I read a catalog"? Why do we say "do" at all? Is the way we speak a reflection of our cultural values? Delving into these provocative topics and more, Our Magnificent Bastard Tongue distills hundreds of years of fascinating lore into one lively history.

Revisado: 10-16-16
This is educational text, so if you're looking for a fun story this isn't it. I found it incredibly interesting and fun and actually makes me curious to find out about my ancestry DNA profile. It also helps to explain a lot of the complexities of both my native English language but also the many others I've struggled to learn. Understanding the context of the differences makes it even more interesting to learn a new language. I'm inspired by this book to learn more!

Heavy and engaging
Revisado: 09-24-16
This book will suck you in, pull you down, wind you up. It's sad and fascinating and frustrating but incredibly engaging. I feel like I know each character personally, like I live and grew up there. The narrator builds the feeling and characters with just the slightest change in her tone. I'm intrigued to continue on in the series.

Elsa is seven years old and different. Her grandmother is 77 years old and crazy, standing-on-the-balcony-firing-paintball-guns-at-men-who-want-to-talk-about-Jesus crazy. She is also Elsa's best and only friend. At night Elsa takes refuge in her grandmother's stories, in the Land of Almost-Awake and the Kingdom of Miamas, where everybody is different and nobody needs to be normal.

Loved it!
Revisado: 08-11-16
Absolutely entertaining, creative and imaginative story. Whimsical yet dark filled with fantasy and hard reality. A true testament about not judging a book by its cover with each character in this book. Loved the complex interactions and individual stories. The narrator really captured the attitudes and personality of the characters. I wondered if I would have liked the book so much if I read it. I highly recommend!

Great stories, acceptable narration
Revisado: 06-18-16
Love the intrigue and conniving in these stories and maybe even a little bit of history? The narration is energetic but I feel every character was a stereotype, all the women sounded like whining hags, and sometimes the voices got confused. Still worth the listen

Historia
With courage, grace, and powerful insight, bestselling author Kristin Hannah captures the epic panorama of World War II and illuminates an intimate part of history seldom seen: the women's war. The Nightingale tells the stories of two sisters, separated by years and experience, by ideals, passion and circumstance, each embarking on her own dangerous path toward survival, love, and freedom in German-occupied, war-torn France—a heartbreakingly beautiful novel that celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the durability of women. It is a novel for everyone, a novel for a lifetime.

Fantastic!
Revisado: 05-20-16
This narrator is the best I've heard yet. Switching between man, woman, child, French, English, German and American accents flawlessly. She captured the emotions and passions and anger of each character. The story yet another about WWII but from a beautiful angle, featuring the heroics of rebels and those that were left behind to suffer under such cruel circumstances. Rarely are the women of the resistance ever mentioned or featured in a story. I'm sad for the story to end.

Historia
The debut psychological thriller that will forever change the way you look at other people's lives. Every day the same. Rachel takes the same commuter train every morning and night. Every day she rattles down the track, flashes past a stretch of cozy suburban homes, and stops at the signal that allows her to daily watch the same couple breakfasting on their deck. She’s even started to feel like she knows them. Jess and Jason, she calls them. Their life - as she sees it - is perfect. Not unlike the life she recently lost.

Great story
Revisado: 02-16-16
I loved the different readers for each main female character. Some were fantastic at narrating the male and female character, others not so much. I had a hard time keeping up with the timeline sometimes, it jumped around a bit, but overall the story was very enjoyable. Suspenseful, surprising and engaging.
