Historia
Bertie Jenkins has spent forty years serving as a midwife for her community in the Great Smoky Mountains of East Tennessee. Out of all the mothers she’s tended, none affects her more than the young teenager who shows up on her doorstep, injured, afraid, and expecting, one warm June day in 1943. As Bertie and her four sisters tenderly nurture Songbird back to health, the bond between the childless midwife and the motherless teen grows strong. But soon Songbird is forced to make a heartbreaking decision that will tear this little family apart.

Historia
In the early hours of a summer morning, a young woman steps into the path of an oncoming bus. A tragic accident? Or suicide? At the center of this puzzle is Adrian Wolfe, a successful architect and grief-stricken widower, who, a year after his third wife's death, begins to investigate the cause. As Adrian looks back on their brief but seemingly happy marriage, disturbing secrets begin to surface. The divorces from his two previous wives had been amicable, or so it seemed; his children, all five of them, were resilient as ever, or so he thought.

This story started out being very suspenseful but I did not care for the way the story evolved. Anticlimactic! The narrator really carries the story.

I listened to this novel twice. it's even better than A Gentlemen in Moscow. And the narrators are amazing. I'd give 10 stars all the way around if I could.

Exciting, interesting, mystery, thriller!
Revisado: 04-20-23
This is a fast-paced, interesting, mystery/thriller about a young woman who escapes a couple of human traffickers and is found by a "guardian angel", retired Air Force Major, Billy Moody, Billy rescues young Ruth Anne, and with the help of more heroic characters - Doctor Greg Westhafer, Detective Hayden "Haystack" Greer - Billy and Ruth Anne embark on a mission to discover her true identity. Unfortunately, the good guys aren't the only ones seeking Ruthie's identity at birth. There is an assassin urgently seeking to eliminate Ruth Anne over the possibility that she could be heir to a business empire.
I love this story and I like the narrator. The narrator gives great voice to Ruthie and Hayden. I took a star off, however, since the narrator has difficulty pronouncing towns in Texas she is not familiar with - like Nacogdoches - and the voice-over sounds robotic. The narrator's flow becomes more natural as the story goes on. All in all, a great listen and I highly recommend!

Please read (listen to) this book!
Revisado: 09-30-20
Oh what a wonderful performance this narrator did! This story just resonated with me so well and now I’m emotional writing the review. I hope Diane Chamberlain knows how impactful her novel is. And Susan Bennett just perfectly captured these characters with her voice. If you are a woman who is going through a tough time, I think this novel will resonate with you as well. “You have to make peace with the past or you can never move into the future.”
Of course, everyone has an opinion. Not every likes this story or the performance. I encourage you to make your own decision, form your own opinion, and draw your own conclusions. Please just give this story a chance before you judge.

For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Historia
Alice Wright marries handsome American Bennett Van Cleve hoping to escape her stifling life in England. But small-town Kentucky quickly proves equally claustrophobic, especially living alongside her overbearing father-in-law. So, when a call goes out for a team of women to deliver books as part of Eleanor Roosevelt’s new traveling library, Alice signs on enthusiastically. Historia
Seth Hubbard is a wealthy man dying of lung cancer. He trusts no one. Before he hangs himself from a sycamore tree, Hubbard leaves a new, handwritten, will. It is an act that drags his adult children, his Black maid, and Jake into a conflict as riveting and dramatic as the murder trial that made Brigance one of Ford County's most notorious citizens, just three years earlier. The second will raises far more questions than it answers. Why would Hubbard leave nearly all of his fortune to his maid? Had chemotherapy and painkillers affected his ability to think clearly?
