Historia
True-crime writer Heather Kilbride arrives in the seacoast town of Inversgail, Scotland, to research a recent murder for her new book. But if that’s true, why does she seem more interested in William Clark, a shadowy lawyer with no connection to the murder? Her nosy questions arouse the suspicions of Constable Hobbs, the members of a local writers’ group, and Janet Marsh and her crew of amateur sleuths at Yon Bonnie Books. Then Heather is found dead - twice....

Good narration, decent story, different format
Revisado: 01-08-23
It’s a different format (with two POVs that switch back and forth throughout the book until chapter 20 or so). There is a lot more suspense building and less murder. I actually enjoyed that quite a bit but the murder onward (which as another reviewer notes isn’t until 2/3s through the book) is just messy. The identification of the murder/conclusion is not typical MacRae - it’s confusing and there are too many red herrings.
Solid addition to the series in terms of character development and I appreciate that MacRae is showing the impact of finding multiple murder victims on Janet and the scones. I wish she would have leaned into Janet’s anger a bit more.
Overall, if you like the series you’ll enjoy this one but it’s not a must read

Solid addition
Revisado: 11-05-22
This is definitely a Molly Harper book - it does what it says on the tin: light romance with magic, good friends, and communities with personality. The relationships develop *much* too quickly - it felt like Ms Harper really wanted to get the close Jane/Andrea friendship without the several books it takes to develop. Overall, it’s an enjoyable new series with an interesting premise.
Now Do I miss the folks from half moon hallow? Or mystic bayou? Absolutely. I’m also glad that the author does move on when she wants to. I almost didn’t pick this one up based on other reviews but I recommend giving it a shot!

Historia
The London Silver Vaults—for well over a century, the largest collection of silver for sale in the world. It has more locks than the Bank of England and more cameras than a paparazzi convention. Not somewhere you can murder someone and vanish without a trace—only that’s what happened. The disappearing act, the reports of a blinding flash of light, and memory loss amongst the witnesses all make this a case for Detective Constable Peter Grant and the Special Assessment Unit.

A fantastic addition the series. I love Ben Aaronovitch’s seamlessly including call backs to prior works without getting bogged down. The whole fam is back this time and it was so well done. Peter (and us readers) have a wild ride ahead! Kobna Holdbrook-Smith continues to be a top notch narrator. Thank you both!

Great story, very on brand for Hearne. Good movement and pacing. It was good to see Atticus (errr Connor) again! Buy and enjoy!
Only negative is the Luke Daniels cannot do a Canadian accent to save his life so when it’s needed it’s distracting.

They're going to see the world after all - just not the way they thought.

Revisado: 06-02-21
Absolutely lovely little short stories - most I hadn’t read before or seen elsewhere. I love spending more time with Owen and the others. This felt like hanging out with friends you only get to see every couple of years but are always happy and contented to spend time with. If you haven’t read any of the Iron Druid chronicles - go back to those before reading this or you’ll be both a bit confused and spoiled.
Note: to all who freak out about the politics in these review - have you not read the series? The whole thing is about Druid bound to the earth. Like book one. Please don’t let those naysayers keep a new reader from picking up the series

I love it. Read the other books first - literally every relationship/conversation/interaction is a spoiler for earlier books. I’m so happy to see the growth in these characters and the resolution of several major points. Enjoy it! I feel like the next book will have a more nights and silences ending while this fits more with unkindest tide

This book is definitely worth your time if you are into body horror OR gothic novels.
I enjoyed the adventure though it is a slow ramp. I convinced myself to buy the audiobook after another reviewer shared they hate the narrator at the beginning but but she grew on her. I can whole heartily agree. The narrator at the start has a very odd cadence but it ends up fitting the story and not being a thing by the end! Enjoy!

This book is an amazing fairy tale in the style of the original horror ones
Revisado: 06-14-20
What can I say- I nearly listened to this in one sitting! It’s a fairy tale, it’s a horror story, it’s a memoir of madness (or is it?), it’s a delightful period piece - it’s an amazing novel.
I almost didn’t get it this because one of top “reviews” criticized the siblings. Ignore them - siblings are annoying (it’s in the handbook). Anyone who has been part of a larger (generally loving) family can see their reality reflected. The world that’s built is very rich and detailed but it’s buildings feels natural.
Get this book - you won’t regret it
