Where’s the workbook?
Revisado: 04-15-24
Nothing new, just repeating same themes to subject. Brief treatment of complex topic. Referenced a “workbook” throughout, but no workbook was on Audible. Engaging with the workbook exercises might have helped.

Drawing on the rich complexity of the American Midwest, Kim Suhr peoples her debut book of fiction with characters that we know, carved out of the Wisconsin landscape and caught between expectation and desire...Personal and powerful, Kim Suhr's Nothing to Lose shows us a region filled with real people: less than perfect, plagued with doubts, always reaching.

Great Collection of Short Stories
Revisado: 03-08-24
Enjoyed these well-written, contemporary short stories. Interesting angles with relatable characters and real-life themes. Kim's narration, even the male voices, resonated. You don't have to live in Wisconsin to enjoy, but the settings added extra insight for me. The last story, Nothing to Lose, was my favorite.

Hard to Follow Story
Revisado: 07-17-23
I enjoyed Mary Doria Russell's "The Women of Copper Country", so I downloaded A Thread of Grace. While I think the writing is colorful and masterfully descriptive, I had difficulty following the story. There are too many characters, many of which are not developed enough to engage me. Then, all the jumping around in place and time from unrelated scene to unrelated scene was challenging. The transitions were not deliberate enough in terms of threading a story. I do enjoy Cassandra Campbell's narration. Her pace, accents, and inflection are exceptional.

One of the most acclaimed novels in recent memory, Charles Frazier's Cold Mountain is a masterpiece that is at once an enthralling adventure, a stirring love story, and a luminous evocation of a vanished American in all its savagery, solitude, and splendor.

Hard to Listen
Revisado: 03-10-23
Really well written, but the author should have turned over the narration to a professional. I couldn't listen to Charles drone on any further without the slightest bit of voice emotion, inflection, or emphasis. I'll read the book.

Historia
More than any other sports figure, Vince Lombardi transformed football into a metaphor for the American experience. The nine seasons during which he led the Green Bay Packers to five world championships is the most storied period in NFL history. Lombardi became a legend, a symbol to many of leadership, discipline, perseverance, and teamwork, and to others of an obsession with winning. Maraniss captures the myth and the man, football, God, and country in a thrilling biography that has become an American classic.

Great story, average audio performance
Revisado: 02-24-23
A classic well written biography of a fascinating, very accomplished leader. I'm glad the author didn't pull punches in the portrayal of Lombardi's personal life. For the life of me, I can't understand why audio narrators do not get phonetic spellings of key names. While I like the narrator's portrayal of Lombardi's accent, the mispronunciation of Paul Hornung's name throughout this audio book version is unacceptable and very distracting.

Why we think it’s a great listen: There’s no gentle way to put this – Frank McCourt’s performance of Angela’s Ashes is just better than the Pulitzer Prize-winning book. Frank McCourt shares his sometimes heartwarming, sometimes heartbreaking story of growing up poor, Irish, and Catholic in the Pulitzer Prize-winning memoir Angela's Ashes.

Incredible writing about the trials of growing up poor from a children's perspective. Narration by the author made the book even better, brought everything to life. I laughed and cried out loud in my car. Tremendously entertaining.

Since she was nine years old, Alina Dziak knew she would marry her best friend, Tomasz. Now 15 and engaged, Alina is unconcerned by reports of Nazi soldiers at the Polish border, believing her neighbors that they pose no real threat, and dreams instead of the day Tomasz returns from college in Warsaw so they can be married. But little by little, injustice by brutal injustice, the Nazi occupation takes hold, and Alina’s tiny rural village, its families, are divided by fear and hate. Then, as the fabric of their lives is slowly picked apart, Tomasz disappears.

Great Listen
Revisado: 10-14-20
Great story of perseverance and hope. Very few audio books capture my interest to the point that I continue to listen when I am not commuting or working out. This one did, I didn't want to stop listening. I enjoyed the format, both narrators and how it all came together. I would recommend this to just about anyone. Very enjoyable and inspiring.

This author is very self-aggrandizing and goes way too far into the political realm. He would do better to stick to science and how it can help people lead healthier lives as we age. I couldn't finish the book.

For years, rumors of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.

Historia
Sleep is one of the most important but least understood aspects of our life, wellness, and longevity. Until very recently, science had no answer to the question of why we sleep, or what good it served, or why we suffer such devastating health consequences when we don't sleep. Compared to the other basic drives in life - eating, drinking, and reproducing - the purpose of sleep remained elusive.

The author should have narrated ...
Revisado: 01-17-20
Fascinating and underappreciated insight to the power of sleep as a critical component of health. I'm certainly a believer. This is a must read for anyone interested in health beyond the worlds of diet and exercise. Unfortunately, I saw the author on a Joe Rogan podcast. Maybe it was Joe Rogan's interview, but I found Matthew Walker to be very engaging and charismatic. The narrator Steve West fell way short with his monotone, unenthusiastic voice. Matthew Walker should have taken the time to read it himself and bring his concepts to life better with readers. So ... I think it's a better read than it is a listen.
