Historia
By 1943, the war was lost, and most German officers knew it. What kept the German army going in an increasingly hopeless situation? Where some historians have found explanations in the power of Hitler or the role of ideology, Robert M. Citino, the world's leading scholar on the subject, posits a more straightforward solution: Bewegungskrieg, the way of war cultivated by the Germans over the course of history. In this book, Citino charts the path by which Bewegungskrieg, or a "war of movement," inexorably led to Nazi Germany's defeat.

Historia
On his last combat deployment, Lt. Cmdr. James Reece's entire team was killed in an ambush that also claimed the lives of the aircrew sent in to rescue them. But when those dearest to him are murdered on the day of his homecoming, Reece discovers that this was not an act of war by a foreign enemy but a conspiracy that runs to the highest levels of government. Now, with no family and free from the military's command structure, Reece applies the lessons that he's learned in over a decade of constant warfare toward revenge.

F-35 is the only inside look at the most advanced aircraft in the world and the historic project that built it, as told by those who were intimately involved in its design, testing, and production. Based on the authors' personal experience and over 100+ interviews, F-35 pulls back the curtain on one of the most heavily criticized government programs in history from start to finish.

This story sounded like a publicity release for the F-35. I didn’t expect much new inside information and wasn’t disappointed. I wouldn’t recommend this book.

Historia
Renée Ballard and the LAPD’s Open-Unsolved Unit get a hot shot DNA connection between a recently arrested man and a serial rapist and murderer who went quiet twenty years ago. The arrested man is only twenty-four, so the genetic link must be familial: His father was the Pillowcase Rapist, responsible for a five-year reign of terror in the city of angels. But when Ballard and her team move in on their suspect, they encounter a baffling web of secrets and legal hurdles. Meanwhile, Ballard’s badge, gun, and ID are stolen.

Controversial
Revisado: 10-03-24
The author asserts that essentially Homo sapiens did to Neanderthals what Europeans did to the American Indians. He certainly has a solid background in Neanderthals & paleontology. Controversial and in my eyes almost opposed to those works which emphasize a more “ sapien” view of Neanderthals and a less violent replacement of them

Historia
All the admirals in the US Navy knew Leonard Glenn Francis—either personally or by his legendary reputation. He was the larger-than-life defense contractor who greeted them on the pier whenever they visited ports in Asia, ready to show them a good time after weeks at sea while his company resupplied their ships and submarines. On the surface, with his flawless American accent, he seemed like a true friend of the Navy. What the brass didn’t realize, until far too late, was that Francis had seduced them by exploiting their entitlement and hubris.

The book was a bit long. Really enjoyed how the commonwealth beaches were covered. It gave a much better description of the substantial casualties they suffered. Also insights to German side I had not heard of before. Finally i enjoyed how author compared more recent scholarship to that of previous decades.

Mickey Rooney began his career almost a century ago as a one-year-old performer in burlesque and stamped his mark in vaudeville, silent and talking films, Broadway, and television. He acted in his final motion picture just weeks before he died at age 93. He was an iconic presence in movies and the poster boy for American youth. Yet, by World War II, Mickey Rooney had become frozen in time.

On October 19, 1965, American Special Forces in Vietnam came under attack at their camp at Plei Me. This marked the first major confrontation between the North Vietnamese and US armies during the war. Throughout six days of constant hostile fire, Captain Lanny Hunter sorted the seriously wounded from the dead and saved those comrades-in-arms he could. For his actions, he was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross. In Exit Wounds, Hunter recalls his tour in the central highlands of Vietnam in 1965/66 at the bloody interface of medicine and combat.

For those of us who spent time in the Republic of South Vietnam the book brought back many memories. I was hoping for a happy outcome but as with so many things in Nam, was disappointed. The last couple chapters we too philosophical but his discussion of his reunion with buddies was great. I would strongly recommend this book to anyone curious about the war at the grunt level and what the country has become after 1975.

Historia
America’s chaotic retreat from Afghanistan in 2021 was nothing short of a horror show. Women and children were trampled to death outside the gates of the Kabul airfield. Desperate Afghans fell from the landing gear of departing planes. Taliban fighters mercilessly whipped and humiliated U.S. civilians. Countless Afghan interpreters were abandoned to the mercy of the Taliban after risking their lives alongside American troops for years. And thirteen U.S. service members were murdered in an ISIS suicide bombing. Still, the full story is worse than anyone imagined.

This is an outstanding book. For those who spent time in Nam (south Vietnam), the story is painfully reminiscent of the fall of Nam in 1975. A couple other thoughts- the slothful indifference of the state department. The utter widespread INCOMPETENCE of US government at virtually all levels. The fact that NOBODY got fired. There seems to have been no serious comprehensive after action review. The authors gave credit to the private groups that rescued so many Afghan partners. Finally I don’t believe the authors said a single word about president Biden, that was a little petty, but overall criticism of president Biden well deserved.
