A toxic presidential election is underway in an America already badly weakened by internal divisions. While politicians focus entirely on maintaining their own power, ISIS kidnaps a brilliant French microbiologist and forces him to begin manufacturing anthrax. Slickly produced videos chronicling his progress and threatening an imminent attack are posted to the internet, intensifying the hysteria gripping the United States.

IF ONLY. ..
Revisado: 10-08-19
Vince Flynn can rest easy. Kyle Mills' work is spot on and Mitch Rapp is still kicking ass. The political intrigue is difficult to listen to, perhaps because it hits very close to home and it makes one uncomfortable to think that it really happens, if not exactly, then pretty damn close.

Historia
Gideon Crew - brilliant scientist, master thief, intrepid adventurer - is shocked when his former employer, Eli Glinn, vanishes without a trace, and Glinn's high-tech lab Effective Engineering Solutions shuts down seemingly overnight. Fresh off a diagnosis that gives him only months to live, Crew is contacted by one of his former coworkers at EES, Manuel Garza, who has a bead on one final treasure hinted at in EES's final case, the long-awaited translation of a centuries-old stone tablet of a previously undiscovered civilization: The Phaistos Disc.

Mailing it in
Revisado: 08-18-18
As a reader of all the Gideon Crew novels, as well as all of the Pendergast books, I am very familiar with Preston and Childs' work. They are very good, even excellent, but lately it seems that they are 'mailing in' their work. Case in point is The Pharoah Key. Much is taken for granted in the relationships of the characters, considering their previous adventures. It was like having someone else write the story who was not aware of the relationships in the previous books. A larger issue I have, is how the character Manuel Garza is drawn. He is described (and previously portrayed) as a Special Forces Combat Veteran and second in command of the unit he fought with. Yet, he cannot swim(!?) and is shown to be trepedatious and indecisive, as well as argumentative for no particular reason. Although he is shown to be of a heroic nature overall, his character as developed is in no way compatible with his described bona fides. Even his fighting ability and combat experience is downplayed, underplayed or ignored. This was such a glaring inconsistency that it colored my view of the story line in a bad way. Mssr's Preston and Childs: FYI, a special forces combat veteran is trained in every type of weaponry, hand to hand combat, sea, land and air (parachute) deployment. They are decisive, aggressive and very, very capable in matters of combat in any form. Indecision and second guessing does not exist in their world, and if they have to get in a fight against ANYONE or ONES, no matter the size or ability, they will fight like the third monkey boarding Noah's Ark. If they do not prevail it is because they are dead or incapacitated. So, in my opinion, if you want to invent a character with Garza's experience, do a little more research.

Intriguing concept
Revisado: 05-18-18
Sometimes you have to roll the dice. After reading several other reviews of this book, both good and no so good, I decided to give it a try. I was not disappointed. If you accept the idea that the Man of Legends is divinely appointed, with or without his own say in the matter, the story is very intriguing. What would a man who cannot die, but can suffer death thousands of times in gruesome ways over two millennia, feel about mankind, his destiny, unnaturally long life and the second coming? Notwithstanding the quibbles about the narration (I understand the disapproval, but don't agree personally) or the implausibility of some of the inventions that he takes credit for, the story captivates. A book I'll read again in a year or so.

Good stuff from Vince Flynn as usual
Revisado: 09-13-17
story line and characters were what your expect from this writer. Having listened to all the previous Mitch Rapp stories, I found this narrator to be less than pleasing. It was like listening to Walter Winchell (youngsters look himup) every time a conversation took place. The harsh, strident, argumentative quality of his delvery was a real turn off.

Historia
Chris and Tanya have been assigned as Coven Rovers, travelling the country and troubleshooting the supernatural community. It's a job that's part cop and part auditor, one that should be long periods of boredom mixed with small parts of action. But this is Chris and Tanya, so a sudden assignment to check on a rogue vampire leads to a run-in with a hostile master vampire, a hit squad, monsters straight out of Native American folklore, black ops teams, and, worst of all, vampire politics.
