Historia
Shenequa Golding doesn’t aim to speak for all Black women. We’re too vast, too vibrant, and too complicated. As an adult, Golding begins to own her boldness, but growing up, she found herself “kind of in the middle,” fluctuating between not being the fly kid or the overachiever. Her debut collection of essays, A Black Girl in the Middle taps into life’s wins and losses, representing the middle ground for Black girls and women.

I really wanted to like this book
Revisado: 11-06-24
I was trying so hard to get into this book, but there were times where I felt like she kept re-wording with the same meaning and it seemed like she was writing any thought that came to mind, On top of the snooty narrator making the words so “sing songy” made it even more difficult to listen to. I made it to chapter 4 and I couldn’t read any more..

Historia
My cock has an appetite. A huge and very particular appetite: blond, curvy, and preferably not a f--king liar... (Although that's a story for another day.) As a high-profile lawyer, I don't have time to waste on relationships, so I fulfill my needs by anonymously chatting and sleeping with women I meet online. My rules are simple: one dinner. One night. No repeats. This is only casual sex. Nothing more. Nothing less. At least it was until Alyssa...

Great love story
Revisado: 07-07-21
At first, I didn’t understand why this book was recommended to me but I’m glad I bought it. I loved the storyline. It was easy to follow. My only issue was the narrating parts of Erin Mallon. Her odd breathing in between words were kind of annoying and almost caused me to not finish the book.

"My name is 'J' and I'm awkward--and Black. Someone once told me those were the two worst things anyone could be. That someone was right. Where do I start?" Being an introvert in a world that glorifies cool isn't easy. But when Issa Rae, the creator of the Shorty Award-winning hit series The Misadventures of Awkward Black Girl, is that introvert--whether she's navigating love, work, friendships, or rapping--it sure is entertaining.

Conflicted, it took 15 yrs for you to wake up?
Revisado: 08-17-18
PROS:
easy on the ears
great narrator
well spoken
CONS:
some topics made me angry from her lack of response
seems like a retaliation from being fired
doesn't seem genuine: there was continuous talks of leaving but stayed until terminated...and now a book?
Just finished her book and it made me cringe at the thought of all the reasons she gave to leave but stayed because she wanted to help the black community. Thanks Omarosa but your loyalty for him made it hard for the black community to trust you for going through him.
SPOILER ALERT BUT NOT REALLY: 3 out of 5
In every chapter a few mentionings of the reasons she should have never been there for that inhumane psycho but continued to help him make office. His lack of empathy for other human beings as a leader especially in her words "black and brown people."
SPOILER: 4 out of 5
This book is full of continous excuses for why but still unsure of why she continued to follow through to the White House with this narssassistic, racist, sexist, abusive bigot. I'm trying to understand...There was nothing in this book that WE (the world) already didn't know. I mean yeah I see there is more detailed information from behind the scenes of what was presented to the public but it wasn't a secret.
This book was clear confirmation for us but unbelievable new news to her. The only person that didn't see the corruption that lies ahead was her. Let's just call this her reminder book to herself that she just made public for us to read. All this talk about how educated she is, was overshadowed by her loyalty to him. She talks about how everyone that is in the White House is there for their own personal gain....uuummmm yeah and took her 15 years to see what kind of person he is and the people he surrounded himself with while it took the rest of the world to hear a sentence from lips to see how unfit he is as America's leader.
It bothers me that she was so consumed into the glitz and glammer of his wealth that she didn't realize she was his puppet. She claimes she's free from his Cult for that I am happy for her. I have a lot of respect for how she put herself out there for sure but I'm still in shock of how she was so blind.
