Thomas Ward is the apprentice for the local Spook, who captures witches and drives away ghosts. As the weather gets colder and the nights draw in, the Spook receives an unexpected visitor. Tom doesn't know who the stranger is or what he wants, but the Spook suddenly decides it's time to travel to his winter house, Anglezarke. Tom has heard it will be a bleak, forbidding place, and that menacing creatures are starting to stir somewhere on the moors nearby.

Winter in Anglezarke
Revisado: 11-30-22
The ending was a little anticlimactic with all that happens leading up. It was nice to read Thom saving the day with not much help from the Spook. The Spook being hurt had me stresses. As always the narrator did a great job making this book spooky and creepy.

Here at the end of all things, Sam
Revisado: 11-30-22
Sam and Frodo's story in the book is just . . . perfect. Everyone needs a friend like Sam. Everyone. Great book all around to end this epic fantasy series. I was also very happy the weird laughing scene from the movie wasn't also in the book. My only criticism is the love story between Eowyn and Faramir. They barely interact in the book but they a soulmates? My least favorite troupe but its doesn't really distract from the rest of this truly amazing story. Andy Serkis did a great job.

This installment to the Pyrdain Chronicles is my least favorite, The story seemed a little disjointed with him learning the new crafts at the end, but this was all important for him to learn for the next book.

The Skandian's are a great addition in this story with Evanlyn (Cassandra) and Will. Additionally Halt and Horace are perfect in this book. I really enjoyed their chapters and the growth in their relationship. Great book setting up the next in the series.

The company of the Ring is torn asunder. Frodo and Sam continue their journey alone down the great River Anduin - alone, that is, save for the mysterious creeping figure that follows wherever they go. This continues the classic tale begun in The Fellowship of the Ring, which reaches its awesome climax in The Return of the King.

More Singing
Revisado: 11-30-22
The addition of more songs in the book is exhausting. I always skipped over them. The Ent song is WAY too long and Gandalf just breaks into song at one point. Andy Serkis does great on the narration. It was amazing to listen to him a Gollum. I was a little disappointed that Tolkien spilt the book in two for the stories he told. I really wanted Sam and Frodo's story to come sooner in the book, BUT Shelob's entire section was gross, creepy and a perfect ending for the book. It really sets of the last book well. The battle of helms deep was a little anticlimactic in the book only because it was a good chunk of the movie, and really only a retelling in the book. Still an awesome novel start to finish.

I like that this story doesn't take place on the mainland of Trotall and we get to see one of the surrounding nations. The addition of the Trickster God and his crows was fun and entertaining part of the story. Good beginning to a duology.

Religious Zealots Strike again
Revisado: 11-30-22
The Narrator and production did a fantastic job on this novel with the characters and the Bane's voice. It gave me goosebumps! I really enjoyed this story all around. Throughout the series the Spook and Tom are "shunned" but god-fearing peoples which is a little tiring troupe but I get what the author is trying to portray with making them isolated from the population. Great Story all around.

French Murder
Revisado: 11-30-22
The ending of this novel was a little much with all of the twists and turns. I am glad I listened to this one with all the French cities and last names. I would have butchered them in my head. The only thing I didn't like in the novel was the love story. He met this woman on a train and spent all of five minutes with her and he is desperately in love now? I can't help but roll my eyes. Not my favorite troupe to read. This one definitely kept me guessing until the end.

Llyan, a mountain cat
Revisado: 11-30-22
I love the fact that the author decided his series needing a horse size house cat. Outside of giant house cats, having Taran's story more fleshed out as he is older is told perfectly. This story has a great ending and story all around. the author does a great job on all the voices for the various characters.
