fantastic reading, great language, but too unrelia
Revisado: 04-27-22
Great performance and crisp writing, but the story just doesn't move and is so ambiguous as to be almost meaningless. Love the craft but not the product.

Historia
A luminous, powerful novel that establishes Rachel Cusk as one of the finest writers in the English language. A man and a woman are seated next to each other on a plane. They get to talking - about their destination, their careers, their families. Grievances are aired, family tragedies discussed, marriages and divorces analyzed. An intimacy is established as two strangers contrast their own fictions about their lives.

not for me.
Revisado: 12-11-21
I don't exactly know what this thing is, but it is not a novel. I am not saying that's inherently bad. You might like this, and resonate with its strong voice and its artificially self-reflective, philosophical, aristocrat characters. If you prefer films to movies, maybe you'll like this a lot. The absence of plot and the way all the speakers spoke exactly the same--despite the wonderful reading and the use of slightly different tones and accents for each speaker--and the near-complete absence of any tension apart from one scene made this a real slog for me.
The reader was great.

Historia
Somewhere out beyond the edge of the universe there is a library that contains an infinite number of books, each one the story of another reality. One tells the story of your life as it is, along with another book for the other life you could have lived if you had made a different choice at any point in your life. While we all wonder how our lives might have been, what if you had the chance to go to the library and see for yourself? Would any of these other lives truly be better? In The Midnight Library, Nora Seed finds herself faced with this decision.

Historia
This near-future trilogy is the first chance for English-speaking listeners to experience this multiple-award-winning phenomenon from Cixin Liu, China's most beloved science fiction author. In The Dark Forest, Earth is reeling from the revelation of a coming alien invasion - in just four centuries' time. The aliens' human collaborators may have been defeated, but the presence of the sophons, the subatomic particles that allow Trisolaris instant access to all human information, means that Earth's defense plans are totally exposed to the enemy.

weird story, unlistenable at 1x speed
Revisado: 04-24-21
story is very weird but very interesting. expect enormous leaps and completely out-of-nowhere twists (in neither a good nor bad way, depends on how you feel about the author not telling you what's going on for long periods of time).
the narration is unlistenable at 1x. at 1.4-1.5x it's much better.
