This was a slow read for me because it seemed so predictable and I had to make myself keep at the reading. Unusual, given I read maybe 4 to 6 books a month. It was just so predictable. The relationship between Atlas and Lily when they were in high school was the most interesting part of the book for me. All else was just predictable.

I lived in Savannah, in the early 1990s, every bit of its essence was captured in the book. Truly felt like being there again! Well done!

Absolutely, must read! I want to read it again and just finished it 2 minutes ago. From bees to trans, I feel like I just got an associates degree in life and need to return to class, take better notes, really analyze the discrepancy between what I didn't know before reading this book and what I've gained by reading this book. And the narrator for Lily, whoa - her characterization of Lily helped me feel Lily's tentative boldness. Phenominal writing of Lily's story. All around, WELL DONE!

I'm thrilled that I made it through the first few chapters and hung in there with this book, because it's definitely a worthy read! I wanted to find the sequel because I'm thoroughly invested in these characters and their commitment to be honorable with their evolving gifts that were forced upon them and to one another. I got somewhat of a Rainman, Umbrella Academy, Black Mirror vibe as I read this. Great read!

Enjoyable Read and April Pickett Shows Up!

I've read 23 of the Joe Pickett books, thoroughly enjoying the settings, character interactions, relationships and more. Hungry for more, I tried this Cassie Dewell book and not only enjoyed the simultaneous investigations, but was also thrilled to see April Pickett show up working as an intern for Dewell Investigations. April's usually much more discerning and skeptical (life experiences and being a Pickett daughter have taught her valuable lessons) than she appeared to be in this book, based on the rise in narrator voice tone when April spoke, yet her curious nature (knowing there's always more than what appearances suggest) was somewhat evident. On to the next Cassie Dewell book.

Another phenomenal literary journey! Finished in a day. And the narration of Epiphany and J. Norman by Jason Culp and Bahni Turpin is beyond thoroughly flawless. Bravo!

I read about two to three books weekly. Couldn't finish this one. The narration of Tate's and her mother's voices as well as the characterization of Tate just shattered my investment in and interaction with the text.

I've read over 47 books in the last 7 months. This book, the way the story unfolded, the relatable relationships - some seemingly doing fine and others fractured while even more seemed constantly broken and repaired, Riley's first impressions on some characters actually turning out to be wrong and others dead-on, the tenacious nature of Riley as the story gained steam, how people in town have an inaccurate view of others.....thinking of towns-folk views on Danny.......and of course, the seemingly honey-sweet folk with stingers of greed........LOVED it!

Can't say that I recall having g read a Dean Koontz book before. Really enjoyed the unfolding of all of the connections between Laura and the past/future as well as how clever Christopher was. I can see how the two men loved Laura's writing similarly. Loved HER. Great narration by Christopher Lane! Female, child, male and variety of distinct and believable voices.

This was my first Allen Eskens book and I thoroughly enjoyed the entire novel. The way the story unfolded, while folding in neighbor's and family's storyline, the convict's earlier life, was just the right amount of information to color the lives of the five main characters (narrator, brother, girl across the hall, the girl that died, and most importantly, elderly convict at the end of his life), making them all relatable. Essentially didn't delve way too deeply into the past traumas of any one character, which really stood out to me because at times, some authors do go too far in that direction, growing those story limbs disproportionate to the main storyline. And the narrator! WOWzers! The pacing, tone, and intonation was so on point for my visualization of the main character!
Excellent choice of narrator! Now I'd like to look into other Allen Eskens books as well as books narrated by Zack Villa.
