Fantastic fun and informative!

I've worked in applied history for museums and archives for a decade. I've read literally hundreds of history books during college, grad school and for professional research. This was probably the most enjoyable one out of the whole lot. The humor is superb, as one would expect from David Mitchell, but it's also a solid tour of English kings and queens from the Saxons to Queen Victoria.
I highly recommend it for those who love history and comedy. It's a fantastic blend of the two. I have the audiobook and would doubly recommend it, being a fan of Mitchell's work in Upstart Crow and Peep Show.

Really surprised on how much I enjoyed this. I've read a lot of popular fantasy and it's mostly bland and uninspired. This is a break from the grimdark boring slogs and has a pulse of adventure that makes it fun.

The narrator had a one note voice. Something akin to bad asmr. I good love fantasy. This is not that. Too much jargon in the first 5 minutes with no story to compel me to continue.
