Historia
When the FBI asks the Sleuth Sisters to attend a retreat for "Love-Able Ladies", Barb opts out, unwilling to spend a weekend celebrating the joys of being some man's "little wife". Retta is eager to go since the venue is a swanky vineyard/inn on the Leelanau Peninsula, north of Traverse City, Michigan. Never a fan of large groups of strangers, Faye would rather stay home, but since Retta needs a "wing-woman", she doesn't get a choice.

Characters pathetic turn
Revisado: 11-20-19
This is the 5th Sleuth Sisters novel in the series and the 5th I have read. It was truly disappointing. The book spends so much time in the characters heads whining about their roles as women that the story line was lost. I like to read these books to get away from the issues of every day life but this book drags the reader through women's issues that are continually raised like sub-plots. It's done in such a heavy-handed manner that it is frustrating and dull. My advice is skip this one and hope the next is better.

Historia
Born to a pioneering family in Upstate New York in the late 1800s, Allene Tew was beautiful, impetuous, and frustrated by the confines of her small hometown. At eighteen, she met Tod Hostetter at a local dance, having no idea that the mercurial charmer she would impulsively wed was heir to one of the wealthiest families in America. But when he died twelve years later, Allene packed her bags for New York City. Never once did she look back.

Historia
The European continent was devastated in the wake of World War II, and the conflict left the Soviet Union and the United States as uncontested superpowers. This ushered in over 45 years of the Cold War, and a political alignment of Western democracies against the Communist Soviet bloc that produced conflicts pitting allies on each sides fighting, even as the American and Soviet militaries never engaged each other.

I wanted to strangle the narrator!
Revisado: 06-27-18
Why would you have someone read a book who can't pronounce German names or words? Actually it was not limited to German. "Eleanor Lansing Dulls" is how he pronounced Eleanor Lansing Dulles! Her name may not be a household name as her brothers, Allen and John Foster, but "Dulls" ???? Really poor narration for a basic short history.

Historia
Before he remade himself as the master spy known as Garbo, Juan Pujol was nothing more than a Barcelona poultry farmer. But as Garbo, he turned in a masterpiece of deception that changed the course of World War II. Posing as the Nazis’ only reliable spy inside England, he created an imaginary million-man army, invented armadas out of thin air, and brought a vast network of fictional subagents to life. The scheme culminated on June 6, 1944, when Garbo convinced the Germans that the Allied forces approaching Normandy were just a feint - the real invasion would come at Calais.

Narrator needs to work on his German.
Revisado: 01-10-17
This was a well-written story. The narrator has a great voice. My only issue is his German language skill. While he did a decent job with the vocabulary, his emphasis is wrong on almost every German word. It may be a picky point but it makes it a bit challenging for German speakers.

hauntingly beautiful prose

James Lee Burke's language provides the perfect backdrop for his story. It is rich and soulful regardless if he is describing a lovely view or a grisly murder. Will Patton's voice is a perfect match.

Historia
Daring Greatly, a book by researcher Brene Brown, deals with vulnerability. But its key tenet is one that will surprise many people. That tenet is the idea that being vulnerable is not a negative aspect of a person's life but a positive one. Only by being vulnerable, by risking hurt or failure, can people open themselves to all the possibilities in life. Those are the opportunities that can make people happier, enable them to connect better with others, and help them become more creative and productive.

Historia
What happened to Jacques Gaillard? The brilliant teacher at the École Nationale d’Administration, who trained some of France’s best and brightest as future prime ministers and presidents, vanished ten years ago, presumably from Paris. This ten-year-old mystery inspires a bet—one that Enzo Macleod, a biologist teaching in Toulouse, France, instead of pursuing a brilliant career in forensics back home in Scotland, can ill afford to lose.

May doesn't get stuck in the Jason Borne-type of thriller where there are more chase scenes and death-defying escapes than chapters. May's hero is a fairly normal guy who has interesting skills and an engaging professional quest. Great solid book!
