Taming of the Shrew - Mountainside Edition
Revisado: 01-19-24
I laughed out loud a few times as I was following the story. Magnus and Nadine are truly made for each other. Yes Nadine is very rude and pushy, a defense mechanism.
Yes Magnus is a brash and full of mischief but as he stated, who else would be able to deal with the other? As usual, Shane East’s performance is amazing. His characterizations are complete fire.

A Story of Family & Purpose
Revisado: 01-10-24
Warning: Gushing and praise ahead. Sigvard the Nameless is such a beautiful climactic and glorious ending to the series!
Denali Day has converted me from a curious seeker into a fan.
I can feel not only the work that went into building this world but the character growth and humanity of each major character.
Don’t even get me started on the gorgeous metaphors and descriptions that brought this epic to bear.
The symbolism! I believe Ms Day’s masterful authorship gives this tale literary merit.
Speaking of masterful, performer Shane East had a meaty feast fit for a Dokiri band and his formidable skills as a narrator are unmatched. Excellent on all counts.

This is Really Lavinia’s Story
Revisado: 01-05-24
This installment in the series is called Ivan the Bold after the middle Dokiri brother. However I feel this story is really more about his love interest Lavinia, the widow of his fallen tribe mate Soren and THEIR journey. I do like that the stories moved away from the virgin bride trope with Tysha (in Erik’s story) and now Lavinia. Both Ivan and Lavinia wrestled with self confidence and bonded over losing Soren and personal challenges kept secret from the rest of the tribe. The story takes Lavinia back to her origins and having to deal with everything she left behind. She ultimately comes into her own. I am very moved by the way these men love on their women and esteem them even though they’re way of acquiring brides leaves a lot to be desired, it is really the only thing remotely barbaric about their behavior.

Historia
Sold to whoremasters by her own husband, Tysha flees into the night with pursuers hot on her trail. For once in her life, the gods show mercy and deliver her to Erik the Tempered, a man as wild as he is noble. With him, Tysha’s long-dormant heart awakens, helplessly drawn to the quiet, enigmatic man who seems content to keep his distance. Obligated to choose a bride for himself, Erik has spent weeks in half-hearted pursuit of a woman. Any woman will do, so long as he can easily say good-bye. However, fate brings him an unexpected bride, as nervous as she is lovely.

Both Exciting And Moving
Revisado: 01-04-24
These Dokiri brides stories are so well written. Ms Day has a strong command of her craft and is a skilled and loving storyteller. The world building is superb and so vivid I can feel the cold air and the rugged terrain. I especially like this story that focuses on the second oldest brother Erik and his “hamma” Tysha. I loved Tysha’s character arc so much because just about any reader can see themselves in her. Her insecurities and underestimation of herself are all too real and human.
Erik as well had his struggles but they help each other grow and develop as people and tribe members.
Of course, this story had the perfect narrator in Shane East who always slays everything he voices. His characterizations are always on point.

Historia
Always the dutiful daughter, Lady Joselyn is weeks away from marrying a rival lord in order to save her house. However, she suddenly finds herself in the clutches of an ancient beast she’s only ever heard of in legends. More terrifying than that is the beast’s master, a wild man who insists Joselyn is his bride by right, and plans to seal his claim in blood. Dragon-rider Hollen has finally captured the woman of his dreams, though he quickly learns waiting for her was less than half the battle.

Beautiful and Brash
Revisado: 01-03-24
This story has as much beauty as it does blood. Hollen is such gentle giant and Joselyn is as fierce as her red hair would imply. All the characters are well fleshed out and as vivid as the landscape and the beasts. Shane East is the perfect narrator/performer for this piece. He is a consummate pro.

Sets The Stage
Revisado: 12-16-23
This book expertly sets the stage for the subsequent unfolding of the story in the others following it.
I hate to pile on but my only complaint is the lack of character voice skills of Morae Brehon.
Her own narrative voice is beautiful and melodic however when she switches into character mode it’s a disaster.
Accents and dialects are clearly not her strong suit. They are either overplayed (like Kat and at times Sidra) or sound like someone mocking an accent (Alexi). Her Vivian and DJ voices were the only one’s that seemed to suit.
As for Sean Crisden, I really enjoyed his characterizations. Each Sullivan brother (as well as Alexi, Holt, Guy and Ian) has his own distinctive voice and you can always tell which is speaking.
I think Jack and Alexi’s voices in particular were kind of hot. I completely disagree with people saying Jack sounds like an old man! This story and series would have benefited from dual narration but I think these stories were released before that production style caught on.

He never imagined a dark moment from his childhood returning to destroy everything he’d built. Devastated, he finds comfort in the isolation of an exclusive members-only club in the Scottish Highlands, even if the club comes with a prickly estate manager who sets his blood on fire.

My Favorite Ardnoch Couple
Revisado: 12-08-23
Aria and North are is the sweetest and sexiest pair so far of the Ardnoch couples. I appreciate the inclusion of a woman with perceived body flaws ingrained inadvertently by a parent. She sounds like a Sophia Loren curvaceous type. Even still her struggle with body image is highly relatable to many women. As for North his playfulness and sweetness despite his rough beginnings gave him huge appeal beyond his physical appearance. Shane East and Stella Hunter are my favorite narration duo. Both are clearly in their element.

To a village in the Scottish Highlands that plays host to an exclusive members-only club, Ardnoch Estate. Entertaining Emotional & Real
Revisado: 11-23-23
This is a well executed story. The author did an excellent job. I enjoyed the well rounded characters and the intrigues along with the blossoming love story between Sloan and Walker.
As usual Shane East and Stella Hunter showed they have amazing storytelling chemistry and are pros at breathing life into their characters. Shane is such a pro and absolutely delivers on every accent he needs to do outside his native English accent. Walker sounds like a whole snack and then some! I wish this one had been duel narrated though bc it’s fun to hear the narrators bouncing off each other. The only thing I disliked is there is no trigger warning for this story. There are themes of domestic violence and abuse that I think warrant it. Other than that, no complaints.

In June 2021, the whole world was listening as Britney Spears spoke in open court. The impact of sharing her voice—her truth—was undeniable, and it changed the course of her life and the lives of countless others. The Woman in Me reveals for the first time her incredible journey—and the strength at the core of one of the greatest performers in pop music history. Written with remarkable candor and humor, Spears’s groundbreaking book illuminates the enduring power of music and love—and the importance of a woman telling her own story, on her own terms, at last.

Brave Yet Conversational
Revisado: 10-27-23
All I’m going to say is it is inspiring and I am proud as hell of Britney for reclaiming her life. I truly do not understand why her parents and family always seemed to treat her like the black sheep, even as a child. Her family is evil. I’m almost as disappointed in her sister as she is. She’s too much like dear old dad and was jealous and resentful of Britney. Having grown up feeling like I’ve done some wrong by showing up, I commiserate with that emotion. Also, Michelle Williams blew this narrative out of the atmosphere. I love how she subtly took on the soft inflections of Britney’s speaking voice and dialect and read the story as it was written. Conversational and brave.

Classic Nana Storytelling w/ A Borrowed Love Scene
Revisado: 10-24-23
POTENTIAL SPOILERS HERE:
I've been slow reading through this series Gentlemen Rogues and as usual Ms. Malone delivers strong, dashing yet roguish male lead characters with smart, strong willed and resourceful female lead characters. As usual, there plenty of intrigue and danger and the sex scenes between Nissa and Rook (Westin) are FIRE with palpable attraction between the characters
No complaints there! I am definitely a fan of Nana's storytelling and have read everything she's published except for maybe 3 books.
The one glitch came with either the 2nd or third love scene. As I was listening, I realized immediately the exact same love scene (with some tweaks) was in another one of Nana's books. An earlier story with different characters (Imani and Xander) called London Calling (rewritten as a 2 part story Royal Playboy and Playboys Heart).
Is it cool for an author to borrow from themselves?? For some reason, I felt disappointed by this. Unlike Xander, Westin did not have any revealed condition that would have made it difficult for him to achieve an orgasm so honestly it didn't make sense to me and didn't really fit the situation.
I've read enough of Nana's books to know she could've come up with something unique for Nissa & Westin same as she did for Imani & Xander and Saffron & Lachlan and all these other hot af characters in her stories. I think maybe its that Nana might have wanted to hear Shane East performing that scene! Hmmm... I understand if that is the case. He was not the narrator for London Calling, the original story where that love scene originated.
Anyway, as usual Shane East is a fantastic narrator and has done several of Nana's stories. Jae Delane was a little robotic at times but was good at distinguishing voices to fit the character. Overall both performances were excellent.
