Historia
In this vivid and compelling narrative, the Seven Years' War - long seen as a mere backdrop to the American Revolution - takes on a whole new significance. Relating the history of the war as it developed, Anderson shows how the complex array of forces brought into conflict helped both to create Britain's empire and to sow the seeds of its eventual dissolution. Beginning with a skirmish in the Pennsylvania backcountry involving an inexperienced George Washington, the Iroquois chief Tanaghrisson, and the ill-fated French emissary Jumonville, Anderson reveals a chain of events that would lead to world conflagration.

A deep, brilliant work.

A deep dive into the circumstances and motivations involved in the decades preceding the American revolution. Replete and lush, I listened to it twice. Great narration.

Historia
In The Civil War: A Narrative, Vol. 3, Shelby Foote follows the events of the war from 1862 through 1864, discussing the strategies of both the North and the South and assessing the performance of the Union generals. The book opens with the beginning of the two final, major confrontations of the war: Grant against Lee in Virginia and Sherman pressing Johnston in North Georgia. In vivid narrative as seen from both sides, he tells of the climactic struggles, great and small, on and off the field of battle, that finally decided the fate of this nation.

Perhaps the best….
Revisado: 08-15-22
I’ve been reading many histories of the War between the states. Of all so far, this is perhaps the most comprehensive, and the most sensitive to all of the perspectives of the conflict. I have read it twice, and I’m sure in a couple years I’ll read it again. It is vast, and replete, and it is too difficult to absorb all of it.

Author Margaret Coit's Pulitzer Prize winning biography of John C. Calhoun is a towering accomplishment in the writing of American history, powerful in the fullest sense of the word. This is no bland recital of dates and events. It is a searing, blinding, cascading roller coaster of emotional, spiritual, intellectual, and above all, human, history.

The biography of an age
Revisado: 01-09-22
Although the narration takes some getting used to, this book is nothing less than magnificent. I have found no better explanation of the forces, complex and myriad, that led to the American civil war. To this end I also found “Heirs to the Founders” also enlightening, but to a lessor degree.

In The Rozabal Line, a thriller swirling between continents and centuries, Ashwin Sanghi traces a pattern that curls backward to the violent birth of religion itself.

A nice distraction in the vein of Dan Brown
Revisado: 04-04-21
I find Ashwin Sanghi to be like the Dan Brown of India. Much like Mr Brown’s thrillers (The DaVinci Code, etc) he weaves comparative religion into his story. It’s not scholastic, but it’s entertaining for sure.
I see in some of the other reviews that some don’t appreciate the narrator. I think he does an extraordinary job. Mr Sanghi makes it very difficult for the narrator, as the story takes us all over the world, all over the past, and through many different cultural settings. I also think there is an issue with speed of the recording. It sounds normal at a slightly faster speed in the playback settings.

Brilliant
Revisado: 12-23-20
This is a masterpiece. A brilliant retelling of a vast epic. I am sure that even a person unfamiliar with the Mahabharata will find the story compelling. As a person familiar with Vyasa’s epic, I am amazed with the subtlety the author uses to blur the lines of propriety, of dharma and adharma.
