Addie is becoming less intuitive and more impulsive. More more like a teenager and less likes a savy career woman. Also I can’t stand Simon. He’s so simpering and bland and uninteresting. If she marries him
I’m done. Hank is such a better character. The added characters are so so too. Very disappointing.

Anyone who has said this was was too “light” or simple” are missing the fact that author could have made it grimmer. She had no masks, Dr.s just wearing a bloody used apron,. Harsh chemicals making your hands bleed. Typhus, cholera, influenza, tuberculosis,
and ond on. Wait,I forgot admitting pts. Lice, head, body scabies, and my personal favorite maggots. Nurses do swear now and probably did then. Just out of hearing. This author did a great job of handling a pretty depressing time in New York City history. However I was able to know two nurses who trained around 1900. It was real and they were tough. Nurses still are at risk for diseases and with huge homeless populations lice, bed bugs maggots, Covid, MRSA. A great mystery with a few twists of a different time with different problems. But vomit is vomit, jerks are jerks, and sometimes the toughest teachers are the best. This was more interesting a than Hannah Jane figuring out who who killing off pts in rm 202.

John Corey needs therapy

John Corey was a flawed hero in the earlier books. John Corey has sunk into an unlikeable misogynistic man who constantly reduces women to body parts. His thoughts and words are served with generous profanity and little clarity or depth. I guess too much booze has begun to cloud his judgement. The plot is so thin and although about police corruption and a corrupt security company on Long Island it spends most the time describing sex orgies or sex acts. When the “action” part of the story surfaces it is reminiscent of earlier Corey novels. This novel was not well written and very sophomoric. Skip this novel and maybe Corey will get some therapy before he appears again.

I really wanted to enjoy this book. The pace was slow and predictable. The “Texan Ranger” was a flawed and not particularly likeable man who couldn’t follow directions and apparently was God’s gift to women. The plot is fairly predictable and I miss the tightly crafted earlier books of Patterson’s early years. Just an okay book that was easy to put down.

It seemed like the mystery was secondary to fly fishing and Montana. Almost as if an article and a mystery merged together. The women characters lacked something too. The mystery part just could not hold my interest.

Very predictable yet not very believable. Lots of words going nowhere and not adding to the plot. Where words could have been used was in character development. At times a little saccharine.

After reading a bunch of “serious” mysteries, this is like a palate cleanser for the heart/ mind/soul. This is not the first of this series but each gets slightly better. Yes it’s New Orleans. Yes it’s high society. Yes, the rich are different. But these people do exist in the Hamptons, the Vineyard, Newport etc. Lacey is the talented artistic owner of a pet boutique who just finds herself embroiled in the mystery of the killing of the father’s close friend. Plus there’s some handsome men, a well meaning but opinionated mother, pet vet father, and other odd characters. The plot has murder, handsome police detective, blackmail, false leads, and a light hearted animal lover sub plot. Read the series in order if possible but for a well written light mystery try this.

I suffered through the first story, cringed through the second, and skipped through the third. This narrator does not do male voices well. Brayden sounds like a prepubescent boy. The stories rely too heavily on the Grimlocks. It just didn’t hold my interest. I tried going back a few times but instead of being different and “campy” it came across as pre-teen. Maybe all these books are getting too formulaic. Same personalities different names, plots resemble one another, and it’s too much of the same thing.

Characters that live in a world slightly too good for reality TV, even the ones who eventually are not. If you want light and airy with a decent story line read by a capably narrator, it’s a good read. After a few heavy reads this cozy mystery is like cleansing your reading palate.

I enjoy all the Mitch Rabb novels but this one was really a tedious read. First I am assuming most people know about the “grid” and blackouts. So the subject matter is plausible but does seem boring as it is handled over and over. The protagonists pop up in the beginning but never seem to hold my attention. We never really understand why “Mr. No Electricity” is so hate filled. He’s a whiner. “Ms Russia” also lacked the sharpness you would expect giver her supposed brilliance. Then the ending came and the epilogue. I almost wonder if this was the point of the book. Shocking or expected. Justified or abhorrent. Kudos to Mitch Rabb or raspberries. You decide.
