Historia
It is the stroke of midnight on Hogmanay when Alison Reid admits a caller to her home. When her death is later reported, DI Clare Mackay attends the scene. The initial evidence does not rule out murder, but it’s not possible to say for certain if foul play was involved. Yet when the pathologist informs Clare about a post mortem of a young woman found in the Kinness Burn, and with some similarities to Alison’s case, it seems there’s a strong chance that there’s a killer on the loose in St Andrews.

Historia
DS George Cross has always wondered why his mother left him when he was a child. Now she is back in his life, he suddenly has answers. But this unexpected reunion is not anything he's used to dealing with. When a disturbing case lands on his desk, he is almost thankful for the return to normality. The body of a monk is found savagely beaten to death in a woodland near Bristol. Nothing is known about Brother Dominic's past, which makes investigating difficult. How can Cross unpick a crime when they don't know anything about the victim? And why would someone want to harm a monk?

Excellent as always! is the next one coming. Can’t wait!
Revisado: 01-20-24
Excellent narrator. He is perfect for Cross. This could have easily been a v disturbing story esp for religious readers, but Sullivan got a perfect balance. Some grit but lots of intrigue. You won’t guess the ending! Cross also grows a bit in this book (acceptance of parents) which is lovely to see. Well worth a credit.

Excellent but it will affect you
Revisado: 09-25-23
Brilliant writing, gripping story and outstanding performance! The story has everything of a brilliant thriller but it will affect you in every way (esp if you’re Irish and hate injustice) The swearing does get a bit much though. My only criticism.

Don’t be put off
Revisado: 09-22-23
I enjoyed this one as it’s about Gemma for a change and you get to see a softer side of Duncan. Some of the reviews are unfair. It’s not Chick Lit or a children’s narrative (Charlotte features a bit that’s all)
The chapter intros that cite period history from websites can be a bit monotonous (but I’d say that about Kate Ellis too) and you can just skip over them with the 30 sec timer. Problem solved.

Historia
Late on a spring night in 1920, five boys cross the Yorkshire dales to the ruins of Fountains Abbey, intent on raising the Devil. Instead, they stumble over the Devil himself, sitting there watching them. Terrified, they run for their lives, leaving behind a book on alchemy stolen from their schoolmaster. The next morning, a body is discovered in the cloisters of the abbey--a man swathed in a hooded cloak and wearing a gas mask.

Historia
When a worker goes missing from a North Sea gas platform, there seem to be just two possible explanations - it was a tragic accident or a suicide. It does not take Smith and his detectives long, however, to discover that James Bell led a double life back onshore in Kings Lake, a life complicated enough to make him at least one dangerous enemy. Before the case can be unraveled, Smith must get a new team working together.

Really enjoyed this one. If you don’t like grisly murders (but not coy cosy either) Grainger is perfect. DC is sharp and humorous and the narrator is perfect

After reading the negative reviews about the narrator, but I really enjoyed it. Yes he can’t pronounce Chiara, but really not such an issue. Give me a British reader any day!
