Historia
Franciscan priest Richard Rohr feels that there is no more challenging spiritual issue than the “problem of the self". Most of contemporary spiritual teaching, he believes, is still trying to inspire and fortify the private self, the autonomous "I". Even much church work is trying to evangelize and sacramentalize what many would call "the false self." Basic transformation is not expected, but merely a new set of beliefs and practices or loyal membership in a new group.

Love Richard Rohr, But He Missed The Boat on This
Revisado: 07-17-18
This must have been a phase that RIchard Rohr was going through. I've seen and heard several of his Videos, mostly more recent, and love his presentation and style. Not so much here. For me, his voice on this one captures annoying quirks and rhythm that would be at home on a small town Protestant AM station radio voice. Thankfully, his later natural speaking and phrasing and cadence is so comforting it is a joy to hear him. Not here for me on this one.

Historia
This collection brings together for the first time Ajahn Chah's most powerful teachings, including those on meditation, liberation from suffering, calming the mind, enlightenment and the "living dhamma". Most of these talks have previously only been available in limited, private editions and the publication of Food for the Heart, therefore, represents a momentous occasion: the hugely increased accessibility of his words and wisdom.

If you put aside what you think you know about Jesus and approach the Gospels as though for the first time, something remarkable happens: Jesus emerges as a teacher of the transformation of consciousness. Cynthia Bourgeault is a masterful guide to Jesus' vision and to the traditional contemplative practices you can use to experience the heart of his teachings for yourself.

I Walked into a Scattershot
Revisado: 10-17-17
What I expected was a far more well thought out book on an interesting topic. Instead, there was a frustrating lack of focus in this book, complete with a scattershot approach that drew on fluff and page fillers such as on a French movement that was dangled but never explored in a way that might explain why it was even brought up in the first place.

Historia
In the earliest centuries of faith, Christians in the deserts of Palestine and Africa sought a short prayer that could be easily repeated, in order to acquire the habit of "prayer without ceasing." The result was The Jesus Prayer: "Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me." This jewel of Eastern Christianity aims at enabling a person to be in God's presence, rather than to focus on feelings or thoughts about God.

Historia
In the beginner's mind there are many possibilities, but in the expert's there are few. So begins this most beloved of all American Zen works. Seldom has such a small handful of words provided a teaching as rich as this famous opening line of Shunryu Suzuki's classic. In a single stroke, the simple sentence cuts through the pervasive tendency students have of getting so close to Zen as to completely miss what it's all about. An instant teaching in the first minutes. And that's just the beginning.

The best book on zen -- with another best!
Revisado: 04-17-16
Where does Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This is, without a doubt, my number one most excellent book on zen. Add to that the remarkable presence of Peter Coyote who is reading it aloud.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind?
there are too many such moments by way of this or that sentence. Unpacking this book and its depth is not an intellectual exercise -- it is from the heart.
What does Peter Coyote bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
The best matching of material to presentation that I know if in the audio book field. This is not a fact everybody has to believe. It is, instead, from my own point of view in terms of my admiration for the book itself carried over to a wonderful presentation. I am fairly sure that finding a more appropriate and sensitive reading simply couldn't be found.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, although as I mention above, hearing the book several times reveals more profound sentences that, at first pass, were like jewels left on the floor,
Any additional comments?

Historia
The Bhagavad Gita, "The Song of the Lord", is the best known of all the Indian scriptures, and Easwaran's reliable and accessible version has consistently been the best-selling translation. Easwaran's introduction places the Gita in its historical setting and brings out the universality and timelessness of its teachings. Chapter introductions give clear explanations of key concepts in that chapter.

Important book on Buddhism
Revisado: 09-02-15
I happen to enjoy a nonBuddhist spiritual teacher Ramana Maharshi and this book, without mentioning him at all, gives a very cool alignment of thought between the Hindu spiritual figure Ramana M and of the same Shadings in Buddhism --the Buddhist concept on the total unreality of self.
