First, I have to admit I have read this book at least 8 times. Its special to me. Anyone who loved The Covenant (the 2016 movie about the warlock guys) is definitely going to see where Charleigh got her inspiration from......this is pretty much a retelling of that movie but in a remixed sort of way. The only negative thing I can say is I hate she didn't expand on this world and give us the other 3 guys stories.

For the performance - I am not a fan. In fact, had I spent more than $1.99 on this I would have been mad. Brandon wasn't awful but Reagan drove me nuts when she narrated anything that was not Evan. It did not do any favors to the story, so I recommend reading it if you find the audible isn't easy to get through.

Story - Knight Cole's story is my absolute favorite Shen book ever, its honestly one of my top 3 favorite books of all time.....so I had a soft spot going in for Lev. And throughout his book I adored him. Bails.....not so much. I will not get into the specifics of why this could not be a 5 star for me, but I will say that I wish she had done a little more research on prescription drug addiction and dependency....but overall it was a great rollercoaster of a ride.

Performance: I love Savannah, she's probably my favorite female narrator. So I had absolutely no complaints there. Aiden did a great job with the character so my issue isn't with him, my issue is with whoever decided to cast him to narrate the part of an 18 year old. His voice is that of a more mature character, so it was hard to connect him as Levi. It was a questionable call, especially considering the phenomenal job they did casting the other All Saints High guys.

I tried not to buy into the hype of this series, it’s so oversaturated on booktok I found myself kinda wanting to not like it. I read the books first and didn’t let myself get too invested but then I gave the audios a shot and OMG I totally get the hype and devotion to this series. When readers say they can’t get over this series, I completely understand what they mean. RARELY has another series or book made me feel the feelings I feel for this series and its characters. It’s just one of the truly special ones.

I won’t ruin it, it was kinda ruined for me and I still regret not being fully blind going in. All I will say is be prepared and know it’s okay if you can’t pick a favorite. I think you can love all 3 guys for different reasons, that even if you do have a favorite it’s hard not to understand why her HEA was who it was. Your heart is going to be shattered at least once in all 3 books, but it’s part of the journey and this is a magical journey for sure.

The narration is perfection. I’m not a huge fan of the female narrator normally BUT I can’t see anyone else as Cecelia now - she is GREAT.

Like all audios, I read the book before I buy the audiobook. I like to experience the story before having it come to life. I have found that I love most of Ana’s books, but this one? It shot the #1 spot of her books for me personally.

Story: For me, this book was relatable in a lot of ways that made it so easy to connect with Alessandra. I loved that previously we had seen her and Dom as side characters, where we can see their marriage isn’t happy, so I already felt invested in them. I LOVED that we start at the “end” but get to see how they fell in love and how he built himself up to be one of the worlds richest and most powerful men. We also get to see how that same drive cost him everything else in the process. If you love a man that grovels and a woman he makes him work for it, you will get that in spades here. Everyone has an “it” couple from every author, well this one is mine of Ana’s and I can’t see that changing.

Narration: it’s Dual which I think all audios should be, I refuse to listen to an audiobook anymore if it’s not dual performance. Teddy did an exceptional job at Dom, he is always excellent though. The only slight issue I have w him and he sometimes doesn’t narrate side characters in a way that it’s clear who is talking. The female narrator was the star though, she captured Alessandra’s heartbreak, emotions, softness, and her strength. Both were perfect for these characters.

I definitely recommend this one.

Most of the time when “booktok” calls something dark I roll my eyes. But this? There will be at least one thing in this story that makes every reader uncomfortable. My list of what I consider dark is short (Adeline didn’t make the cut for example) and this was added immediately. If you read this and rate it low bc of the triggering contents, that’s on you bc EVERY review warns as such.

I read this book before I ever listened to it. I fell in love with Malachi, he’s one I thought “I can fix him”. Olivia I am not as big of a fan of, I hated she manipulates him and then walks away as the poor victim. I won’t get into the story so I don’t spoil it just know it’s gonna test your morality when you realize the type of ish that you find hot lol.

As for the narration - I am in the minority in my opinion. Everyone raves about Joe’s performance and while I can admit it’s clear he put his all into it, I felt a lot in the 2nd half that he had used Heath Ledger’s Joker as inspo and went a little overboard. It was impressive how he was very distinctive in his performances for when he signed, inner thoughts, and actually spoke - I never got confused on how he was communicating - I can admit he’s a force in terms of narration. And he did bring the heart-wrenching parts to life, I just wish he had toned down the Joker-like inflections some. The female narrator was pretty good until it came to the spicy parts or any part she had to show a lot of emotion, but let’s face it I’m not sure any of my fave female narrators could’ve matched Joe’s performance in this either.

Overall, this is one of my favorite books and audios in the last year. And Malachi is one of my most loved MMC in a long while. I would LOVE to see her expand on their story, even if we just get little short novella’s.

My first review on this (under my former Audible acct) was absolute bullcrap. I don’t know what I was on that had me putting this at the top of my list tied with Broken Knight of all Shen’s work but I claim insanity. This story wasn’t even in my top 5 from her.

The story itself is okay, but I HATE how both red head female leads she’s created are depicted as not desirable. Every other story she writes the girl in it is sometimes unrealistically beautiful and yet she fumbles when she has the chance to highlight red heads. My daughter is a redhead and absolutely gorgeous, so I took this personally.

Hunter is everything I expected but he did have some growth in this which was important to me, he couldn’t be a complete airhead playboy throughout his story so she delivered in giving him some depth.

The biggest issue…..the narration. This was my second attempt at listening to it and this time it was a hard DNF. Jason is a great narrator but not for a teen boy (not even for a young adult) but I got over that. His issue was the fun unseriousness Hunter is known for was not depicted in any way. But he shined in this compared to poor Virginia. I’m sure she’s a great narrator, I can’t be mad at her. Whoever picked her as Sailor should be fired, seriously. Her depiction of an 18/19 year old girl from Boston sounded like that girls chain-smoking grandmother……in this role she sounded like she had a ROUGH life, it was painful. I ping ponged between being angry w the person who selected her and being sad for her that I knew the amt of hate that was coming for her after this performance. Instead of tormenting myself a second time by finishing this story, I stopped and turned to another listen of Angry God to remind myself what masterpieces Shen’s stories can be when the narration is on point.

I absolutely do not recommend this audio, but pick up the book instead. You want a good audio pick from Shen? Broken Knight is top on that list, but Angry God and the Villian and the Monster and honestly everything else but this one has been brilliant. Pick those instead.

I am a huge Rina fan, but despite that I have been getting a little annoyed that lately her books have been getting a little repetitive…..it’s the same characters with the same story just slight differences. Don’t get me wrong, I still loved them but I hoped she would mix it up.

This was where she did just that, her first MM story and she did a beautiful job. I don’t read MM normally, it’s the same with reverse harem I’m just not a fan of those stories. However this one?? I knew I would love Niko, but the level of love I have for him is a little unhealthy. I can totally understand now how she got completely lost within their story when she was writing it, Niko and Brandon are my favorite couple of this series by far. Brandon was everything I expected, but Niko was just something else. For someone to be so violent and unhinged, this man was the sweetest and most devoted to date…..and there was this endearing innocence about him that was unexpected but welcomed.

The narration? 5 stars…..I am so glad Rina started Dual narration with Landon’s story, it makes these stories so much more and bring them to life. I wish she could go back and redo the first few in dual as well. The narrators are perfect for this series and I can’t wait to see what they do with the rest of the stories. Teddy Hamilton has always been part of my top 2 favorite narrators and he took on Niko like he was born for the role - it will go down as my favorite from him to date.

Even if you don’t like MM romance, PLEASE give this one a chance…..their love story is beautiful.

Best Audible of 2023 for me

The story is great, it’s heavy on the smex without losing its plot and character/relationship development. But that’s not what I’m here to talk about.

This is the best narrative performance of any romance books I have EVER listened to (and it’s been a lot). Broken Knight by LJ Shen used to hold that title but my God these two narrators were almost unbelievable with how good they were. I’ve never been a huge fan of Joe’s, I think he’s good but I have male narrators (like Jacob Morgan or Shane West) I prefer…..however this man put on the performance of his life with Max. I found myself uncomfortable (in that certain good way) a lot…..it’s like he became Max. Like someone was threatening his family and told him he better work, and work this man did. Jesus Christ. Same w the female, she is unknown to me but I’m definitely checking her out. She did a New York/Italian accent without making it seem fake or forced, not to mention even she had me uncomfortable and likely blushing.

It’s dual narration which makes it that much better. This is my first by Sadie which might suck for her bc this is impossible to beat.

I read the book first and loved it. I got the audiobook bc it was on sale. I normally LOVE Rina’s narrator picks but not this one.

I love Sebastian but he is too mature to be a 19 year old, it was a ridiculous choice. And he has such a hard time adding a British accent everytime he needs to…..I couldn’t tell what accent it ended up being but it definitely wasn’t British.

The female narrator was okay, but she had the same awful time adding an American accent when needed….it came off as nasally and valley-girl when it was Kill she was reading for.

I’m glad that Rina switched to dual-narration for her latest in this series…..I hate it took her three books of doing it wrong to finally have the lightbulb moment of doing it right.

Definitely read this book instead, it’s likely you will have a different outlook on the story overall.
