This was OKAY
Revisado: 03-25-25
SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILING IT FOR YOU SO HARD THE MILK YOU FORGOT ABOUT IN THE FRIDGE IS GOING TO GET JEALOUS:
After hearing about how they found their god dead and all that... This book was more wound down. It's to set up for the next book and big adventure and I get that but since I'm not reading ahead and just listening to audiobooks it's whelming... Not under, not over... I'm just whelmed. A lot happened but a lot DIDN'T happen if that makes sense. It's a book... Of a series I truly like but it's just there. Alex learned some neat spells that got demolished in a fight towards the end so they're not THAT great but... Yeah... It's a book. And it's here... And it's okay. Just okay. Can't wait for the next book in the series.

Many years and even more levels have passed since Jake and friends entered Nevermore. With quite a number of floors passed, they turn their attention to the Challenge Dungeons. These Challenge Dungeons offer – as the name suggests – unique challenges and circumstances, and completing them will earn each Nevermore competitor points and multipliers to their existing points. As things unfold, it quickly becomes clear it’s through these dungeons that the true top-scorer of the Nevermore Leaderboards will be found.

Slow
Revisado: 03-03-25
This is full of spoilers and it's early. After this book being on Hiatus for so long I just finished the Cradle series. Each book was about 8 hours and it got to the point. This whole book and previous books was/is/are a training arc. Training to do what? There is no looming threat in the last 7 books and I'm over here listening to it, the narrator throwing on the same female voices with different inflections and I'm just like... Why? Why am I doing this? I'm not even paying attention to half of this crap. This series so far is crap. Like ask yourself when you finish this book. What are we doin? Training. For what? To get stronger. Stronger for what? Cause I don't want to be locked in a box and be a mana battery. Dude... I'm over it. Dropping this book once this is done.

Mixed review
Revisado: 02-06-25
No spoilers but... This book came in a little too late for me. I think I'm going to drop this series because everything that happens I can see coming. It's NOT good writing. I don't know what JM Clark does for this book outside of jokes but the runes and explaining every freaking ruin every freaking time and how a rune does this and that and it's just... Bad. The narrator, I tried, I liked him at first but the more characters they add to the book you can hear that the same voices reused. The fights sound like they have no urgency, if you tune it out for a bit next thing you know you're in a fight with the same mono tone voice. I'm good off this series. May listen to the LAST book but the inbetween stuff? I'm good on.
One slight question that may be a spoiler.
Wasn't there levels to this? Like the characters gained actual levels? Either I tuned it out so bad or I didn't hear ONE level besides B rank be mentioned. Levels as in number wise.

2 outta 3
Revisado: 08-24-24
Play part one and 2 are okay. Part one is pretty slow but there's at least levels and work building. Part 2, not so many levels... I think there's like... 1 level gained before 3? So if this author is planning on leveling them every book then I'm off this train. Part 3 (spoiler warning) is absolutely atrocious. You're introduced to cool characters who aren't permanent and there's NO CONSEQUENCES of death because it's basically a friggin video game they're playing in real life. It's boring. I'm still listening to part 3 and I use it for background noise. I don't care who upgraded what in their makeshift party. I don't care who broke what wall when with who. I don't care who is out to assassinate them and "take their points" there's ZERO consequences. I'm starting to think I hate LITRPGs but I love love love "He who fights with monsters" and "Primal Hunter" because there's actual consequences. Also... This book isn't funny, like they have team building for sure but nobody is funny. It's all serious. I think I laughed like... 3 times in a 55 hour book. I'll give the next one a shot and then I think I'm good on this. If you have ever paid someone to watch them play video games on twitch this is for you. You enjoy this little book with no fun banter and no consequences in this play war and clap your hands and stomp your feet. I'm more interested in what Luna, their backer, will be doing for them if anything. She seems fun. But besides this? I dislike this series thus far, love the narrator, and can do without the mundane.

Can't
Revisado: 06-01-24
Got to chapter 3. It's so boring. Anyone who wants you to buy this, likes long, drawn out, super sower character development. I can't. I don't know what they're talking about. First chapter was about a bouncer. Second one was a horny teenager and the third? A bunch of demons. I should have sampled when I had the chance. When they started naming humans different things and in weird languages I would've known this isn't my cup of tea. Skip this.

Everyone expected Violet Sorrengail to die during her first year at Basgiath War College–Violet included. But Threshing was only the first impossible test meant to weed out the weak-willed, the unworthy, and the unlucky. Now the real training begins, and Violet’s already wondering how she’ll get through. It’s not just that it’s grueling and maliciously brutal, or even that it’s designed to stretch the riders’ capacity for pain beyond endurance. It’s the new vice commandant, who’s made it his personal mission to teach Violet exactly how powerless she is–unless she betrays the man she loves.

Why Vy For Something More?
Revisado: 05-22-24
This is going to contain middling spoilers. This review is written before part 2 came out and I have no clue what's going to happen in part 2 of this book. Violet is useless. She faints. She breaks. She faints some more. She breaks. She lies. She's mad at boy for lying but lies. She breaks. She faints. She breaks again. Faints. Realizes friendship is KEY and omg she needs her friends. Why? Cause she breaks. She faints. She breaks. She faints some more. She breaks. She wakes up! Oh strong protagonist boyfriend that she is sooooo mad at but wants to save her from... Something. Anything. I'm almost surprised she can find a way to hold a spoon without him. But that I'm not sure because she really only eats when he's around. She's not really a hero in this book. Her character is useless with so many mid tier power ups that when she finally does SOMETHING or ANYTHING without breaking or fainting you just have to root for her. People die in this part that you don't remember and it finishes with how it started. With her hurt. Over... I don't know... Something stupid she couldn't overcome herself.

The Lack Of Narration
Revisado: 03-27-24
Hit the random Music! Whoooaaa where are we now? Who's talking? Okay... That's Darcy, where are we? Oh we don't know. We're just... Talking. What's the setting? The mood? Oh back to hope! Oh no! Blighter! What happened in that fight? We don't know! But we get some. Killer sound effects with some squishing noises. This is freakin' terrible. This story needs a narrator BAD. Like yesterday. The cast did what they could and when they whisper even though I have a JBL speaker connected to my phone to hear everything, you can't hear nothing. The echoing voices of some enemies? Good luck understanding everything they said. No wonder this junk is free. I got into IW1 cause it was free and I just started my audio book journey and I liked it. Now? Now?... Pft... I'm good on this. I'll finish up the series because I cannot FINISH a story but this grade A trash even for free.

I hate the narrator. I wish Will Patton read this book. She sounds like she's reading the book and not "acting" everyone sounds the same. Everyone. From males to females. She is absolutely terrible. Holly doesn't seem even frantic like how Will Patton makes her sound. Holly sounds like a real cool and has it together person and she is NOT that way.
