Historia
There’s an apocryphal story that Alexander the Great once captured a notorious pirate named Diomedes. The great conqueror decided to interview the doomed pirate, asking him what he thought gave him the right to seize the property of other people. The pirate responded by asking the emperor what he thought gave him the right to take property that doesn’t belong to him, including entire countries. The story goes that Alexander thought the pirate very clever, granting him freedom instead of execution.

Enjoyable overview of pirates over the centuries
Revisado: 09-25-23
I was interested in this book from my experiences in Savannah Georgia and learning about pirate activity in that area.
This book gave me exactly what I expected, realistic and interesting history from a broad international perspective.
The performance was interesting and kept my attention.
I really enjoyed this one.

Historia
More than a million listeners have thrilled to Bill O'Reilly's Killing Lincoln, the can't-stop-listening work of nonfiction about the shocking assassination that changed the course of American history. Now the anchor of The O'Reilly Factor recounts in gripping detail the brutal murder of John Fitzgerald Kennedy—and how a sequence of gunshots on a Dallas afternoon not only killed a beloved president but also sent the nation into the cataclysmic division of the Vietnam War and its culture-changing aftermath.

I lived through this as a very young second grader. A lot of this I knew but there were some facets I had never heard.
Still so many unanswered questions but I firmly believe there were sinister forces at work
This family has had so many tragedies.

Historia
It has been a long time since there have been as many ideas and events in our world causing fear and anxiety as there are today. But one thing, in any event, is clear, and that is the duty of Christians to search more diligently than ever the prophetic Scriptures. Let us compare prophecies fulfilled with prophecies unfulfilled and attempt to make the one illustrate the other. Let us strive, above all, to obtain clear views of the things we should be expecting, both in the church and the world, before the end comes and time will be no more.

When young orphan, Oliver Twist, is sold into an apprenticeship with an undertaker, he leaves behind years of miserable servitude and mistreatment at an English workhouse. Hoping to move on to better things, he decides to escape his new, equally dreary surroundings and head to London. It is there that the novel unravels as Oliver meets a host of larger-than-life characters, including The Artful Dodger, a high-ranking member of a juvenile pickpocketing gang, and their elderly leader, Fagin.

It was years since I read Oliver Twist. This audiobook captured the memories I had. Enjoyed the narrator’s skill with the voices, especially Fagin.

How did one man-a humble monk and Bible professor-spark a religious rebellion that changed the course of history? What made Martin Luther's theology so explosive in 16th-century Europe? How did this late-medieval man launch the Protestant Reformation and help create the modern world? And how should we think of him: hero or heretic, rebel or tormented soul? Great historical book
Revisado: 12-26-22
The performance was excellent but I did not expect so much of the author’s opinion. I prefer a historical perspective without editorializing but maybe I misunderstood the intention. It did hold my interest.

Historia
The history of colonial America is a story of extraordinary scope, with Europeans, Africans, and the native peoples of North America interacting in a drama of settlement and conflict that lasted nearly three centuries. Go back in time and relive this epic story in 36 spellbinding lectures. While concentrating on British North America, Professor Allison also covers developments in the colonial outposts of Spain, France, the Netherlands, and the all-important British possessions in the West Indies, which were the source of the most lucrative crop in the New World - sugar - and the reason for the enormous growth in the slave trade.

Great story - new age distraction
Revisado: 03-15-21
I am a gardener and a southerner so I loved this book except for the new age stuff that didn’t even seem to belong. The sisterly enmity did not all seem exactly believable but it was a good story that kept me listening all weekend. The performer was exceptional and I enjoyed that part immensely. I love Oxford strictly as a tourist but found the depiction of life there delightful. Skip the new age stuff and it would have been five stars all the way.

Interesting yarn but predictable
Revisado: 09-04-20
By the second or third chapter I knew exactly how it was going to end. I enjoyed the listen but it could have been better. Too many clues from the beginning made it too easy to know exactly how it would all unravel. Characterization was trite and I didn’t really find any sympathetic characters. It seemed to me the author was going for plot twists and surprise endings but failed at both. I never considered not finishing it so there is that.

We live in a culture that more and more questions authority, truth claims, and traditional beliefs. So what are we to believe about the authority and trustworthiness of a book that is thousands of years old? Is God's word truly inerrant? How is it different from other religious texts? Why should we trust its claims?
