The male narrator was not to my liking. Other than that, I fully enjoyed the story.

I loved everything about this book except the unrelenting miscommunication. I’m screaming in my head…just at freaking talk to each other. I know that’s easier said than done… but the miscommunication seem to go on forever. Otherwise, the characterizations were spot on as were the descriptions of someone with an anxiety disorder and someone else with trust issues. Jacob is clearly someone who is too good to be real… but one can dream!

Overall, this was a good, though unlikely, whodunit with entertaining characters. However, I found the poor recording quality distracting. While I understand the book is set in the 1920s, I would have preferred to listen to clean audio of our current day.

Excellent, yet gut-wrenching. I found the story so painful at times, that I wondered if I could continue to listen. I’m glad I slugged through the emotion. The story is worth the struggle.

When I purchase a book with 5-6 hours of content, I expect the vast majority of listening time to contain the novel. Nearly half of this audio is composed of a novella and sneak previews. The actual novel was entertaining, but it was quite short...almost a novella itself. While I enjoy Lauren Blakely’s novels, I will be a more wary shopper to prevent purchasing similar audio compilations.

Awful narration taints the story

I really wish the narrators had not changed from the first 3 books of the series... especially the male narrator.

Secondly, some of the information regarding the role of the therapist was inaccurate. It would be very unlikely for a psychiatrist to use a Master’s degree in counseling to hang out her shingle. A psychiatrist can do psychotherapy without a masters level degree. Most choose to do psychopharmacology because it is much more lucrative than therapy...but if that person has the desire, he/she can practice psychotherapy as part or all of their practice. Finally the ethics of the therapist all questionable on several levels throughout the book...dating a patient is clearly one of them. But many therapists will not treat the friend of a current patient much less treat another family member.

All that being said, the depiction of ptsd as well as flashbacks and feelings of shame from an abuse survivor are spot on!

Fun story, but the performer's southern accent was a fail!

What a fun book!

My only issue is the performer's attempt at a southern accent. I would recommend one of 3 solutions:
1. Hire a 2nd performer who can speak with a proper southern accent.
2. Perhaps the current performer could provide a passable generic American accent.
3. Don't even try a different accent.

As a lifelong Southerner, I found this performer's attempts distracting. I think her use of different British voices worked well!
