Not the best MLK audiobook

Awesome performances and excellent text choices.
Revisado: 10-29-21
I've heard a handful of King's speeches over the years, but I loved the premise and narrators for this collection so I added it to my commute-listens list. WOW. I took probably 50 screenshots so I could revisit certain parts. Incredible weaving together of King's works to remind us of the true nature of his legacy rather than the convenient soundbytes politicians use when they want to feel justified about something.

Millions of people visit xkcd.com each week to read Randall Munroe's iconic webcomic. His stick-figure drawings about science, technology, language, and love have a large and passionate following. Fans of xkcd ask Munroe a lot of strange questions. What if you tried to hit a baseball pitched at 90 percent of the speed of light? How fast can you hit a speed bump while driving and live? If there were a robot apocalypse, how long would humanity last?

I LOVED this. I have the print copy for the illustrations, but listen to a lot of books during my commute and took a risk on the audiobook version because the narrator is one of my favs. Fantastic choice :) I absolutely loved the way Wheaton narrates and there were only a couple times I ended up pulling out the print version because I felt I was missing something by not seeing the comic. I don't usually laugh out loud during Audiobooks, but this one had me chortling. Loved it.

The more you understand about your teen’s brain, the better prepared you will be to handle this turbulent time. Professor Abigail Baird has devoted the majority of her career to studying adolescence, and in this Audible Original, she shares the latest perspectives on this amazing time of cognitive and behavioral growth.

Useful & Validating
Revisado: 10-29-21
I LOVED this and will probably revisit. The author narrates very well and the content - based on neuroscience - is an incredibly refreshing perspective. I feel vindicated! Adolescents are not slaves to their hormones after all; they’re just starting to practice being adults… and will make stupid mistakes because don’t we all when we start something new? Sure, there are developmental factors to be aware of, but adolescents absolutely deserve to be treated as the highly functional humans that they are.

Best book ever for the commute home
Revisado: 10-29-21
I have the book itself, but I like to listen to audio books when I'm at work or while driving. I started to try and listen to this while at work and, embarrassingly enough, realized I couldn't because my eyes were welling up or I'd chortle loudly. As corny as the premise seems to be, Miranda gets the balance between genuine, optimistic, and realistic 100% on point and his narration really nails it. This will stay in my back pocket for days when I need it again.

Climate models show that global crop production will decline every decade for the rest of this century due to drought, heat, and flooding. Water supplies are in jeopardy. Meanwhile, the world’s population is expected to grow another 30 percent by midcentury. So how, really, will we feed nine billion people sustainably in the coming decades? Amanda Little, a professor at Vanderbilt University and an award-winning journalist, spent three years traveling through a dozen countries and as many US states in search of answers to this question.

Couldn't Finish It
Revisado: 10-29-21
I've been listening to audiobooks since I was a kid, and I've been an Audible subscriber for almost 15 years. I've listened to a ton of audiobooks during my commutes, while I do chores, and while at work, and I can only think of two other times I quit a book because the narration was too bad to finish.
The topic is great. The narration is SO BAD.
I want to finish it. The subject is near and dear to me. Honestly, I'll either buy the book or get it from the library, but I wish I hadn't waited so long to listen to the book so I could return it to Audible. The author is the reader, and she imparts every sentence with a heavy finality that's meant to convey the seriousness of the issue, I believe, but just ends up sounding monotone and like every sentence should be a conclusion (making you want to stop).
If you need a little more lively and performative narration to keep your attention, skip this.

Historia
Veteran sailor and writer Christian Williams invites us along once again on a 5,000-mile voyage of discovery around the North Pacific. Equipped with a new boat, a well-stocked toolbox, and the entire history of philosophic thought, he takes us as crew through squalls and calms deep into a laboratory of the universe that exists only out of sight of land. Funny, erudite, and at times deeply personal, Philosophy of Sailing explores who we are and how encounters with the unknown can be a path to revelation and joy.

Entertaining
Revisado: 01-10-20
The voice was hard to get used to - awkward pauses in the middle of sentences, etc. But he grew on you after a few hours.
If you’re a millennial, be prepared to be occasionally annoyed. There’s some blatant bashing and some intense but brief entitlement ranting. But he doesn’t come across as self-righteous or intensely arrogant, so it balanced out.
It’s definitely a conversation, not a deep, dry delve into various schools of philosophical thought. The action of the voyage and the conversation about philosophy was well-balanced.
Overall worth listening to over a week’s commute.

The Winchester witches are in a tizzy. Sam Cornell’s parents are coming to town, and Clove is beside herself. Meeting her boyfriend’s parents is a big deal. It doesn’t help that her cousins can’t stop making fun of her, which is the Winchester way, of course. In addition to the Cornells' imminent visit, the Winchesters are also dealing with Sam’s new tanker. An afternoon visit knocks Bay for a metaphysical loop with ugly visions of a tragedy long since forgotten - by everyone but the dead.

Narration
Revisado: 12-19-17
I expected the narration to be an adjustment but I didn't expect it to change the characters personalities. I miss the snarky personalities of clove, bay and thistle. I don't think I will purchase any more of theses books if they are read by the new narrator.
