Historia
When Margaret and her husband Hal bought the large Victorian house on Hawthorn Street—for sale at a surprisingly reasonable price—they couldn’t believe they finally had a home of their own. Then they discovered the hauntings. Every September, the walls drip blood. The ghosts of former inhabitants appear, and all of them are terrified of something that lurks in the basement. Most people would flee. Margaret is not most people. Margaret is staying.

A new standard in horror literature!
Revisado: 02-18-24
Everything from the story to its characters are absolutely perfect in this book. Every time you think you've got everything figured out, another curve ball gets thrown. You are left questioning what is real right to the end, while the story also tackles the harsh realities of abusive relationships, and alcoholism. The narration for this one is also spectacular. The voice artist definitely portrays the protagonist in a perfect fashion, performing the character's own impressions of the people around her in a way that easily gives you a clear idea of how she perceives them. I cannot suggest this one enough!

Historia
In a sweeping saga of music and vengeance, the acclaimed author of The Vampire Chronicles draws listeners into 18th-century Italy, bringing to life the decadence beneath the shimmering surface of Venice, the wild frivolity of Naples, and the magnetic terror of its shadow, Vesuvius. This is the story of the castrati, the exquisite and otherworldly sopranos whose graceful bodies and glorious voices win the adulation of royal courts and grand opera houses throughout Europe. These men are revered as idols - and, at the same time, scorned for all they are not.

This story will tear your heart out...
Revisado: 02-18-24
...And then it will put your heart back in nice and neat. it can be difficult to accept a story about early American black struggles, written by a white Boomer woman, but having spent her whole life immersed in the culture of New Orleans, she does a justifiably good job weaving this tail. It's not the longest of her stories, nor does it feature any supernatural events or creatures of preternatural abilities, but it is definitely one of her best works.

Heralded as an instant classic of fantasy literature, Maguire has written a wonderfully imaginative retelling of The Wizard of Oz told from the Wicked Witch's point of view. More than just a fairy tale for adults, Wicked is a meditation on the nature of good and evil.

Fascinating
Revisado: 02-18-24
I had been meaning to get to this book since the late 90s, and can honestly say that it was worth the wait. I had no idea how politically driven the story really was. It truly spoke to the side of me that always suspected that the Land of Oz was putting on more of an act for Dorothy than anything else. The narrator for this one is excellent as well. Excellent diction, and a smooth voice.

Another fascinating story with a really annoying narrator
Revisado: 02-18-24
It really says something about the talent of the author that I keep coming back to listen to more of these stories despite how absolutely obnoxious the reader's voice is. As an anime voice-over artist, I can see why he is popular. But he should not be reading anything for audible. His shrieking, whining, and general shrill sound isn't just off putting, it's downright detrimental to one's health. The story however, continues to be absolutely fascinating. honestly I would suggest just reading the book If you have time. it'll save you a lot of agony.

Finally, somebody perfected the concept of a serial killer romance! Both characters are weirdly relatable, and their list of fellow serial killer victims leaves you not feeling alienated from them regardless of how violent they get.
The two voice actors they got for this play so well off eachother that I actually found myself believing that they were involved with eachother in real life. def worth a listen!

Historia
"Marley was dead to begin with...." These chillingly familiar words begin the classic Christmas tale of remorse and redemption in A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. Now R. William Bennett rewinds the story and focuses the spotlight on Scrooge’s miserly business partner, Jacob T. Marley, who was allowed to return as a ghost to warn Scrooge away from his ill-fated path. Why was Marley allowed to return? And why hadn’t he been given the same chance as Ebenezer Scrooge? Or had he?

It also includes the bonus Hell for the Holidays, a 24/7 Demon Mart Christmas special. Lloyd Wallace is the most clueless crossing guard the intersection of hell and earth has ever seen. So clueless, that he doesn't even realize the beer cave in the corner store where he works is the gateway to hell.

Someone finally did it
Revisado: 12-16-23
The author finally managed to create the most UNLIKABLE protagonist ever created. No arc, no real redemption, no relatability, just a cowardly, self centered, extraordinarily annoying twerp. This was enhanced of course by the reader who spends most of the story screaming at the top of his lungs in his most shrill, nails on a chalkboard voice. He's a good anime voice actor, but for the love of Damballah, PLEASE don't let him read any more audiobooks! Outside of all that, the rest of the characters were quite interesting, and the non stop horror references, both subtle and not subtle, were quite amusing.
