Historia
The "Devil Dogs" of King Company, Third Battalion, 5th Marines—part of the legendary 1st Marine Division—were among the first American soldiers to take the offensive in World World II—and also the last. They landed on the beaches of Guadalcanal in the Solomon Islands in August 1942—the first US ground offensive of the war—and were present when Okinawa, Japan's, most southerly prefecture finally fell to American troops in June 1945. Ordinary men, the Devil Dogs were asked to do something extraordinary: take on the victorious Imperial Japanese Army—and defeat it.

Greatly told story on what the Marines went through in WW2
Revisado: 02-02-23
I liked this book on a couple of levels. For one it told the story of a multitude of Marines. There were some names that I never have heard of. Men this nation owes a debt of gratitude that we will never be able to repay. So not a boy does it tells a great story of the fighting in the Pacific in WW2 but it gives you a start to look for and find the memoirs of the forgotten ones. Great story well written. Recommend this for anyone wishing to learn more about the WW2 experience in the Pacific.

Wow! Loved the story
Revisado: 12-02-22
Good Book! Almost impossible to put down. I like the fact that James Bradley was able to weave the story from both sides & incorporated their families in it as well. So glad this story has been told.

Historia
This is the dramatic story of the American bomber boys in World War II who brought the war to Hitler’s doorstep. With the narrative power of fiction, this is a harrowing ride through the fire-filled skies over Berlin, Hanover, and Dresden. Fighting at twenty-five thousand feet in thin, freezing air no warriors had encountered before, bomber crews battled new kinds of assaults on body and mind. Air combat was deadly but intermittent: periods of inactivity and anxiety were followed by short bursts of fire and fear.

Revisado: 10-30-22
I liked how the author took the narrative’s from various different personal in the 8th Air Force & intertwined them with the official records. Made them to come to life! If you love reading Air War History this is a good one to listen/read. There is something for every historian in this listen. It was hard to put down!

Historia
It is the greatest American underdog sports story ever told: how a team of college kids and unsigned amateurs, under the tutelage of legendary coach - and legendary taskmaster - Herb Brooks, beat the elite Soviet hockey team on their way to winning the gold medal at the 1980 Lake Placid Olympics. No one believed the scrappy Americans had a real shot at winning. Despite being undefeated, the US - the youngest team in the competition - were facing off against the four-time defending gold medalist Russians.

This book brought me back in time & what a great trip it was! I know those guys just played a hockey game but it was so much more to millions of Americans. Just wanted to thank Michael for telling his story. You don’t even have to be a sports fan to love this story! I’m 55 years old and even before this book or any other celebration for the Lake Placid Gold came out she knew the story!! Thank you 1980 US Mens Hockey!

Amazing Story!!
Revisado: 08-28-22
Amazed I’d never heard of Billy Waugh before. Read the book by Rick Prado “Black Ops” and he mentioned Billy Waugh as a hero of his. A very unassuming tale as he tells it but … WOW!! What an amazing career he has had. If you like reading about Special Forces don’t pass this one up! And to think after spending 20 plus years in SF & 7 years in Vietnam he spent 3 years working for the postal service!! I’ll never look at my mail carrier in the same way again! God Bless men like Billy Waugh & thinks for being able to hear his story!

The firebombing of Tokyo. Strategic Air Command. John F. Kennedy. Dr. Strangelove. George Wallace. All of these have one man in common—General Curtis LeMay, who remains as enigmatic and controversial as he was in life. Until now. Warren Kozak traces the trajectory of America’s most infamous general, from his troubled background and heroic service in Europe to his firebombing of Tokyo, guardianship of the U.S. nuclear arsenal in the Cold War, frustrated career in government, and short-lived political run.

First Time I’ve listened to a Book about General Lemay
Revisado: 07-12-22
I’ve always enjoyed reading about the Air War in WW2. In the accounts and books and some scattered magazine articles I’ve read he is mentioned many times and in many ways but this book does a good job of painting the man both in and out of the uniform. His childhood, his early years and entrance to aviation. I couldn’t put this book down. I think a great piece for the aviation historian to get a feel for who Curtis Lemay was. I drew a lot of similarities between him & Grant/Sherman.

On October 25, 1944, the Samuel B. Roberts and 12 other vessels stood between Japan’s largest battleship force ever and MacArthur’s transports inside Leyte Gulf. Facing more than 20 Japanese vessels - including the 70,000-ton Yamato - the 1,200-ton Samuel B. Roberts turned immediately to action, churning straight at the enemy in a near-suicidal attempt to deflect the more potent foe and buy time for MacArthur’s forces.

Revisado: 03-06-22
I love the story about what it was like for the sailors who fought in the Pacific. It painted good picture of the stories of their life and how they and the their families carried on after the war with all the suffering that ensued from their service. I as a grateful American can’t begin to thank them enough for their service.

The Irish-American story, with all its twists and triumphs, is told through the improbable life of one man. A dashing young orator during the Great Famine of the 1840s, in which a million of his Irish countrymen died, Thomas Francis Meagher led a failed uprising against British rule, for which he was banished to a Tasmanian prison colony. He escaped and six months later was heralded in the streets of New York - the revolutionary hero, back from the dead, at the dawn of the great Irish immigration to America.

Historia
Four days before Christmas in 1943, a badly damaged American bomber struggled to fly over wartime Germany. At its controls was a 21-year-old pilot. Half his crew lay wounded or dead. It was their first mission. Suddenly a sleek, dark shape pulled up on the bomber’s tail - a German Messerschmitt fighter. Worse, the German pilot was an ace, a man able to destroy the American bomber with the squeeze of a trigger.

Great Story!!
Revisado: 10-05-20
I liked this story in many levels. It gives the view point from a soldiers eyes from both sides of the fence so to speak and tells of the bravery & horror that the air war in Europe was. Frank Stigler was a credit to all men who where the uniform. The audio was good & it was hard to put down. Good listen for people who like first hand war experiences who like history. You won’t be disappointed!
