Historia
In the summer of 2004, Tony James Slater went to Ecuador looking to become a man. Not all of him returned. But the bit that did was fueled by a burning desire to do...something. Something that mattered. And, ideally, to get the hell out of England in the process.

Funny!
Revisado: 04-04-24
This is really more a collection of several adventures that Tony experiences, as opposed to one continuous story as his other books have been. The biggest portions were his family going through the process of renovating a house to flip (how on Earth did he make THAT funny?) and his time in Thailand. Also some mini-distractions in between. Like having control of the wheel of a sailboat for the first time ever while also sailing through hurricane force winds. Seems reasonable! All in all, the book is hilarious and a great distraction. As always, Tim Campbell does a great job with narration as well.

Historia
That Bear Ate My Pants! is the hilarious tale of one man's quest to better himself. Whether losing a machete fight with a tree, picking dead tarantulas out of a tank of live ones, or sewing the head back onto a partially decapitated crocodile, Tony's misadventures are ridiculous, unbelievable, and always entertaining.

This book is quite humorous and never allowed my mind to wander. I laughed out loud through the book and the narrator was great.

Historia
Tony James Slater knew nothing about Australia. Except for the fact that he'd just arrived there. The stage is set for an outrageous adventure: three people, one van, on an epic, 20,000-mile road trip around Australia. They're crisscrossing the continent through some of the most inhospitable land on the planet - the infamous Aussie Outback. Unprepared, underqualified, and hopelessly inept, Tony battles gigantic pumpkins, mechanical mishaps, and suicidal kangaroos, armed only with a thong and a sense of humor.

Exceptionally funny and definitely worth a listen
Revisado: 04-04-24
The narrator was great and the book was a lighthearted and funny distraction. It also started me on the path to reading all of Tony Slater's books on audible. Each one has been exceptionally enjoyable.

Amusing and informative, Hey Ranger! teaches as it entertains with tales of boat-ramp misadventures, lost Afghani campers, encounters with wild animals, dumb crooks, and more. One chapter, "Tales from the Wild Side", brings together unusual incidents from National Park Service reports, and the concluding essay, "Don't Be a Victim of Your Vacation", advises visitors on how to avoid being a story on the evening news.

Not the whole package
Revisado: 02-23-24
The stories were humorous for the most part but the book suffered substantially in it's choice of narrator. His style made it much harder to stay engaged.

Better than I expected
Revisado: 11-15-19
This is the first of the Great Courses that I have tried and I was very pleasantly surprised with the experience. I was afraid the material would be dry, too specific, too vague or worse. But the information is easily digestible and endlessly entertaining. I'll definitely be checking out another of the Great Courses after this one.

Historia
Most historians study the smallest slivers of time, emphasizing specific dates, individuals, and documents. But what would it look like to study the whole of history, from the big bang through the present day - and even into the remote future? How would looking at the full span of time change the way we perceive the universe, the earth, and our very existence? These were the questions David Christian set out to answer when he created the field of "Big History", the most exciting new approach to understanding where we have been, where we are, and where we are going.

Not much about Twain, focus is on progressivism
Revisado: 11-11-18
To be fair, i only made it through 3 of the 8 foods in the book before stopping, but the first three foods taught me virtually nothing about mark Twain. instead, i heard about how terrible white folks are with a smattering of environmental lecturing sprinkled in. I should have know better considering it was Nick Offerman, who is an extremely liberal guy. if you want to hear a 4 hour lecture about how bad white folks are and how humans have destroyed the environment, this is your book.
