It's impossible not to love Tor Thom and Sarah Puckett, they're both incredibly talented voice artists and I appreciate all the extra work they put into the Italian accents. Admittedly, though, I did find it sort of jarring to have Roman's voice switch accents when speaking vs when just in the narration of his POV. I can totally understand why that choice was made, but it definitely took some getting used to. His accent was good, though, so no complaints there. Who doesn't want that deep growly voice speaking in an Italian accent in their ear for 8 hours?

Story-wise: This was complex and captivating. There are a lot of elements at work here. The MC and FMC have known each other since childhood and were definitely into each other back then, but family stuff tore them apart and they're supposed to hate each other which leads to a sort of second chance/enemies to lovers/childhood sweethearts kind of thing that give all the angst you really want in a dark romance. Roman is a true anti-hero. He's not a good guy. He has no problem with his job in the mafia and no qualms about seriously f**king someone up. Personally, that's my favorite kind of hero. I'm a sucker for a villain, and he toes that line really well. As for the FMC, (I don't know how to spell her name, so I'm not going to try), she's a strong and sassy girl that's not going to let anyone get away with things... mostly. She has a loyalty to what's left of her family that really does blind her in her life. But, she doesn't stop moving forward, which I really liked.

This story ended with an HEA, and a lead in to the 4th book in the series. I hadn't read the first two books, and had no trouble at all following along with the story. All the family dynamics and relationships were easy to keep up with and understand, although I'm sure having those first two would certainly enhance the story--it's not a must if you haven't.

This was difficult to listen to in a lot of ways. If you have experience with DV and SA in any and all their forms, please beware the trigger warnings. I don't have experience with those things, and this hit me pretty hard.

That said! The story was excellent. I think Murphy Wallace did a supreme job of lending authenticity to the experience of those who have been groomed and ended up in abusive relationships without realizing it until it was too late. She did a really good job of getting into Delilah's head as she navigated this amazing new relationship that slowly, covertly, turned into something incredibly toxic and dangerous. Because it was so focused on the FMC and what she was going through, and how her life was changing, we didn't get as much of Royce as I would have liked. However, we really couldn't have as much of him as we would have liked since this was about her journey more than anything else.

I think this was an important story to tell, and gives victims the opportunity to feel seen, if they can manage to get through it. And Royce was f***ing awesome. For real and for true, the end of this was so satisfying. Like, this guy that hurt her got what was coming to him! You know when Ramsey Bolton got his end in GoT? It had those vibes. It was all worth it just for that. We truly have a villain that you want to see burn in the deepest pits of hell. It was very well done.

Royce and Delilah do get their HEA, and I love that for them.

The narration was excellent. Props to MNJ for voicing such a sleazy slime ball and getting into that character's head, then switching to the wonderful person that is Royce. That had to be difficult to navigate. And also major kudos to Sarah Puckett for voicing a character that went through so much. Narrating that sort of trauma can get into your head, and I hope she was able to relax with a big glass of wine and feel good vibes when she was done. She was perfect in every respect. As always, duet narration is my very favoritest of favorites.

Overall, highly recommend IF you can handle the content. Always take care of you and your mental health first, but this is worth it if you can do it.

This book starts as a high school enemies to lovers/against all odds kind of romance and ends more in the romantic suspense space. Generally I enjoyed the story and narration, but the time jumps were hard for me to follow, and the last quarter of the story or so took such an abrupt left turn I had to go back and listen again to figure out how we ended up there. However, that said, the cliffhanger has me eager for more. I want Ford and Tessa to get their HEA, but they’ll clearly have to keep fighting for it.

Jasper is touch chef that will get you hungry for more than a good burger... although he'll make you a good burger, too. This was a fun and relaxing listen with a mild enemies to lovers trope. Jasper and Lindy went to school together, but took different culinary paths. When she moves into a shop across the street from his high class burger joint he gets all jealous. He's got everything you generally want in the alphahole kind of book boyfriend. He's a hardass in the kitchen, believes he's always right, but... he's a big softie for the girl next door even though he really wants to hate her. She's adorable, bright and vibrant, and all the things he needs to soften those jagged edges. It gets spicy toward the end, but the build up of that tension is swoon worthy. The anticipation is top notch.

One of my favorite things about this story were the cast of supporting characters. Jasper has a host of really great friends who call him on his nonsense and encourage him toward loosening up enough to let love in. Lindy has a brother with a disability and their bond is really lovely and supportive.

The narration was fantastic and really enjoyable. Scott Rose has a gorgeous smooth voice that you won't want to stop listening too, and Lexi Evans brings emotion and realism to the characters too.

This isn't my typical genre of romance, but it was a really great listen. First of all, the narration was incredible. I generally prefer duet narrations, but Jarman and Grace did so well with their voices that I was able to really enjoy the dual style instead. They're both talented actors, and were a pleasure to listen to.

The story is heartfelt and captivating. I enjoyed the reversal of the girl that pines for the boy finally gets him and hesitates, but he's on it! Levi takes such good care of her and shows her love that she hasn't really gotten a good dose of in a long time. Not that she isn't loved by her family, but loss creates gaps in affection sometimes, and he goes above and beyond to help her family heal.

And the smarmy, gross mayor? That's a character you love to hate, which always makes a story better.

Excellent listen, beautiful story.

This was a great listen. The narration was on point and kept me hooked, and the story was really interesting. There are secret identities, and deception. The MMC is the kind of guy I wouldn't want to mess around with, and the FMC is one of the bravest characters I've ever read. She reminded me a lot of Nellie Blye (who's name I'm sure I just butchered), a fearless woman willing to put herself at risk to get to the truth. This is high steam with a lot of heart.

This is actually my first book of Toni Dwiggins, and I am HOOKED. I love that this series can be read in any order without feeling like you've lost something... because I haven't listened to the first two--but I will now, because holy guacamole, this was a good ride.

I'm not going to get into the plot too much. An important person dies and is found in a place they shouldn't be considering the condition of the body. Now it's up to the forensics teams to figure it out, and since she was found in the snow, near a volcano that's edging toward eruption, that means a geology team is part of the crew. You don't have to know or love rocks to love this story. Dwiggins does a great job of explaining the methods without it being boring, and it's actually fascinating. A lot of research and love when into this story and it's obvious. The mystery is very compelling and it keeps you gripped because you think you know who it is, and then you aren't so sure, and then you're REALLY sure, but something else happens and you second guess it again. It's like that through the whole thing. And then the Volcano starts to come into play and things get REAL crazy. There are bears, avalanches, quakes, explosions, and so much more. It's a harrowing climax that goes on for half the book, until you aren't sure you'll even come down from the high of it. The volcano is such an excellent backdrop for the story that is taking place. This book is incredibly well thought out and has had so much love and intention poured into it, I can't wait to read more of Dwiggins' work.

The narration was heartfelt and intense. I was there with the characters every step of the heart pounding way. Nellie Scott did a beautiful job of giving each character their own voice and attitude and lending the right amount of emotion into every scene to keep me gripped. I also just love her voice, it's very soothing. Which is nice in a story that kept me so on the edge of my seat lol

Highly recommend.

A Steamy Ride

Murphy Wallace wrote a really engaging story of danger, mistaken circumstances, and possessive, protective love. The MMC is a teddy bear--if that teddy bear is 90% Grizzly Bear, hell bent on destroying anyone who looks at his woman askance. The woman, that is, who doesn't necessarily know she's being obsessed over. There is some stalking in this one, particularly once he claims her. The FMC is a strong character who thrives on her independence and taking care of the people around her, so she doesn't love that he's aaaaaallways around. She's all "give me space" and he's like "Of course... from the shadows outside your window"<--not literally, but pretty close. They have a *steamy* relationship. About half way through the book, we start to forgo some of the story in favor of smutty smexy times--not complaining, but you should know, right? It does end on a cliffhanger, be warned, but the second book is out and available, so worry not my friends! The cliffhanger does have me very intrigued and ready to listen to book 2, because I want to know how all this fits together. It's not just one biker club in the works. There's a larger one nearby that is maybe, possibly, probably involved but we don't know how or why... dun Dun DUN!

Narration was beautiful. I loved listening to both voices. Angelina Rocca and Michael Norman Johnson perfectly captured the emotion and drama of each encounter and keep my ears tingling with anticipation for the next chapter. Highly recommend for lovers of: enemies to lovers, obsessive love, love at first sight, forced proximity, strong FMCs, Touch her and ☠️ MMCs, biker romance, romantic suspense, dark romance, high steam, and those who are not prone to triggers involving drugs and domestic violence (this does NOT happen between the MMC/FMC, they're good together).

I love it. The romance is tantalizing and forbidden and delightful, and clean for those who prefer to skip the steam. There are puzzles and intrigue and conspiracy. There is action and the sort of inner turmoil that only SKLW can bring to life. The narration is very good, engaging. Definitely recommend and I look forward to more like this from the author.

I had this series before Thalassa had it redone and it’s been a favorite, one I go back to relisten to often. I love the story. It’s my favorite of Thalassa’s work and Des is just everything .

The performance isn’t bad. I prefer the original narrator, but this one is good nonetheless, although I do wish they’d skipped the British accent. But that’s my personal preference and doesn’t at all mean the narrator performed badly. My real problem with it is the production is so bad. The sound is grating. It sounds like it was recorded through a paper tube. It wasn’t equalized properly. I listened to other thing by this narrator and the production is good, so this isn’t normal. Whoever did the editing/mastering on this did a poor job and it’s distracting. I’m super bummed but it’s likely I won’t go back this as a favorite to relisten to. It’s so distracting when the original was so well done and the sound on this is so poor, especially for Blackstone production.
