I purchased this title under the impression it would provide an objective look at the Democratic party’s “behind the scenes” of the 2024 presidential election. Early on, I noted the book repeated snarky comments re Trump and Trump’s supporters/campaign workers (eg, Harris surrounds herself with hard workers while Trump’s got “Bros” and “surgically enhanced” women). It also appears very important that the writers make clear that Biden’s decline was very rapid and a total shock to all. If you want a soft-hitting, defanged “Team Blue” tell-all, this postmortem may be fine. Maybe “Uncharted” will be ok. It’s half the length, but maybe it’ll hit harder.

I am a huge Sherlock Holmes fan. I have read all the stories and listened to them hundreds of times. I got this bc it was on sale (I think) and wasn't expecting much. I immediately could hear the genius in the work - and that includes the narrator. As someone with a long commute, my audio library has swollen to over 1200 books. I have become a narrator snob. It wasn't intentional, but I have no patience for tooth whistles, bizarre cadence, etc. This narrator - especially his Warlock Holmes voice - is for sure in my top 5. He is outstanding.

If you love Sherlock Holmes, have a sense of humor and appreciate top level narration, you can't help but love this.

Webb has put it all together in such a smart way. Many books written about this stuff but no one put it all together like this. All footnoted. And, the footnotes are hugely important so pls read it first if you can. Of course, I mean read both volumes. Speaking of which:
Where is Vol2 on audible? It's the better volume imo. Both are great.

Packed with excellent information. I leave this review mainly to comment on the narrator, Shaun Grindell. He reads "uphill" or, stated differently, his pitch rises at the end of most sentences. So, most sentences sound like questions. To me, it gets really old really quickly. So listen to the sample and if it doesn't bother you, go for it bc the book is great.

The fear of being a "conspiracy theorist"

Really well done. Author is sure to defame conspiracy theorists bc well they're conspiracy theorists. And we've all been taught "those people" are kooks. The author wants us to know he's not one of those tinfoil hat wearing types. Then, oops, he realizes he's built a foundation to show intelligence and law enforcement involvement in the "hippie scene" and particularly with the entire legend of Manson. But .... that's crazy - dare I say "kooky"? Isn't it? He offers a lot evidence that it may be crazy but it appears to have happened.
Narration top quality.

My favorite audiobook ... ever

I don't make the claim in the title lightly. As a guy with a long commute, I've amassed a large audiobook library and this is my favorite. Yep, it's #1 of 1000+ audible titles.
Admittedly, I am a sucker for Victorian Britain and have a dozen books on JtR. So, full disclosure there.
Even that said, it can't be denied Robinson did a ton of research and built such an amazing case. It's beyond fascinating. I rarely listen to audibles again but I've listened to this at least 7x in the prior 2yrs. I learn something new each time.
And the narration? It's out of the park. Or, "bang on" as the English would say. He nails it. Having listened to so many books I've grown impatient with crap narration, but also thoroughly appreciate the good ones. And this narrator is so so so excellent. He "gets" the book and ... well, he's perfect. Best of any title in my library.
In short, if you're into history, this is totally worth your time.

Dr. Greger is really good at what he does: Teaching us the facts about health. But just as I did with "How Not to Die", I purchased this in book form as the audible is extremely frustrating. I guess I thought he'd hire a professional narrator this time around. But he didn't. (In truth, I'd forgotten just how bad he was.) Aaaaand iiiiiiiiiit's nnnnnnnnreally tough ... to ... get ... thru mmmmbbecauseitgoesslowtofast nnnnnnnlike a roller coaster. And his voice goes high to low/low to high also like .... nnnnyou guessed it! A nnnnroller coaster.
This is a great book. I'd probably have ordered a hard copy anyway as there's a lot beyond the PDF that's best to have a written reference.

I have a problem with the author's main thesis but i must comment on a contention he made early on. He claims: "Lisa Howard, who died of a drug overdose like Marilyn Monroe and Dorothy Kilgallen...."" this guy has got to be kidding!
Lisa Howard sprinted to the pharmacy in an attempt to save her life. prior she'd worked on better relations with Cuba despite JFK's death and had met with mark lane re JFK's assassination.
Dorothy Kilgallen was found dead in a bed she never used, in her nightgown but with her make-up on (something she never did), and the book she was holding was upside down and her glasses weren't in the room. oh and she'd just claimed she was about to break the JFK assassination investigation wide open. and Marilyn Monroe?
this joker clearly did no research on that claim. instead he furthered the mainstream lies about these women. none of them committed suicide. and this is supposed to be revisionist?

it's the narrator with the tooth whistle! why why why? how this guy has almost 400 narrations to his credit is beyond me. listen to the sample and if you are ok with every "s" sounding like "zzzz" then you'll love it.

I read this book last year - and I mean the actual book. As in, I turned real pages. It amuses me to see audible reviewers claiming things like "best book I've read all year" or "likely won't read it again." Imagine a preschooler telling his teacher, "I read 'Jack and the Beanstalk' last night." Ok, so Mom read it to him.
I digress. This is a great book. Brown does an outstanding job wading through centuries of propaganda to expose the real history. The research is outstanding. I actually bought multiple copies of this book to pass on to friends.
It would've been an excellent audible title but for two very unfortunate issues. The narrator mispronounces extremely common words. eg, "scarce" pronounced like "farce" - and "scarce" appears often describing tightening of money supply. Also, and not the narrator's fault assuming he wasn't the editor, is the fact parts of the audiobook went unedited. Starting a few hours in, one hears the narrator stumble, sigh, clear his throat, and repeat the line. This happens over and over. I assume it was rushed. The narrator does have a pleasant voice.
