Lovely flora and fauna depictions of New Zealand in the country life of British heritage NZ child.

Listened to it while on holiday in NZ. I was hoping the author would have a close Māori friend or something to add to the rich tapestry of New Zealand/Aotearoa life.
This is a colonial childhood story of British Heritage and Culture within North Island, NZ. The Māori peoples are not the focus of this tale.

Still it is an interesting memoir like story of a childhood life spent in beautiful NZ before the 1950s and modern technology.

Delightful , Wholesome Story

We are always looking for family oriented books that will be liked by the boys and girls in our household. The lively chapters in this series have been a great accompaniment to all household chore times and art times. We like to listen while we work.
My children are picky with their narrators.
But we adore this book’s narrator. Suzanne Toren does a wonderful job!
When you listen as a family you are able to pause the story and have a quick discussion or explanation regarding bits of the culture of the 1900s, Judaism, female and male roles, or Yiddish phrases.

We are so happy these stories are on audible!

Great Tale for kids learning about the early colonial days of Australia.

Be aware that there are outdated references and views towards the native Australian peoples in this story. By many characters. Skip over them or take the time to explain to your readers how such views were and are wrong. Just heads up on that bit. It’ll need to be addressed.
