Revisado: 11-19-22
a book that takes you to a new level of weirdness, I would not call a sci fi or fantasy book but just a good book with really strong world view. it leaves many questions unanswered but is still satisfying to finish

I think as a CEO you should have a crystal ball to be successful, Jeff tried to explain the issues with GE during his time as the CEO as luck and timing, but I think the issue with GE are more to do with the culture of superstar CEO of Jack, the company was on its way down way before he took over as CEO and he did not have the ability or the courage to turn the company in the right direction, many of the people working for GE no longer believe that they are doing something to make the world a better place to live even before Jeff was CEO. The lack of autonomy of the individual sectors of the company and the infighting of upper management was a real drag on the performance of the front line workers and once you lose their belief in the company the company is lost for ever. The culture of GE was the biggest weakness and what eventually collapsed the company under its own weight

Too many workplaces are driven by cynicism, paranoia, and self-interest. But the best ones foster trust and cooperation because their leaders build what Sinek calls a "Circle of Safety" that separates the security inside the team from the challenges outside. Sinek illustrates his ideas with fascinating true stories that range from the military to big business, from government to investment banking.

the book stating a fact that most of business school graduates have forgotten, or have been made to forget. today our focus on the short term has damaged our relationships and the business we operate. I would love to see a collaboration between Simon and Jim Collins, Jim can provide the research and data to show the Simon's ideas at work in real life with evidence that will cause a shift in the way we educate and evaluate our leaders

like meeting an old friend
Revisado: 01-04-21
the first time I was introduced to the art of war was when I was in my senior year of high school 35 years ago. at the time I was so impressed with the way it was written and the mythology around it. reintroducing my self via an audio book did not have the same effect. but this timeless text still has nugget of wisdom that are true at any age. I personally believe that some books are better on a printed page and this is one of them.
