Historia
After 50 years of hibernation it has awakened. Oak Grave Forest was a place of beauty. A paradise full of gorgeous wildlife. An outdoorsman’s dream. Until now. A string of disappearances puts the police on high alert. Animals are found mangled and stripped of flesh. People enter the woods and never return. Blood covers the autumn leaves. And the forest is unusually quiet. With dusk casting its gloomy shade over Oak Grave, Shane Alter leads a band of police officers into the forest in search of the missing persons. What they find, instead, is a carnivorous humanoid.

I guess if you’re looking for a brainless tromp for a few hours, it’s ok. Not sure how to even really evaluate it, given A) it’s what’s on the tin and B) not really worth dissecting.

Not worth it
Revisado: 12-10-24
This may be a good book for someone who has no idea what they are doing at any time. Prepare for such brain busting suggestions as “pack extra clothes” and “get a vaccine when traveling to places with malaria”
For those of us who have actually lived in the world for longer than 5 minutes, this is just a laundry list of basic things, which is fine, but the title suggests much more than you actually get here.
Like others I couldn’t get through the hour long chapter 3. Just not worth the time.

Historia
Homicide detective Bryan Clauser is losing his mind. How else to explain the dreams he keeps having - dreams that mirror, with impossible accuracy, the gruesome serial murders taking place all over San Francisco? How else to explain the feelings these dreams provoke in him - not disgust, not horror, but excitement? As Bryan and his longtime partner, Lawrence 'Pookie' Chang, investigate the murders, they learn that things are even stranger than they at first seem.

I tried, I really really tried.
Revisado: 09-30-24
I’m sure this is some people’s cup of tea but I’m a whisky guy. I just could not get past the narration and dramatic style. I both wanted to fall asleep from boredom with the narration and also couldn’t fall asleep because of the ridiculously loud and annoying sound effects. Just couldn’t hang in there long enough to get into, or even understand the story line, which I gave a respectable 3 stars on that account alone.

Love listening… but
Revisado: 09-08-24
Ok yes, it’s true, some of the performances are a bit hokey or over acted. That said, overall this is a very entertaining way to listen to the Bible. Granted you’ll never remember any of the drier parts, such as name lists and all of that from this version alone as if you’re anything like me your mind drifts off. But overall it’s a great way to hear the Bible several times per year as an add on to actually reading it.
Others have said they didn’t put book names and chapters, that seems to have been corrected which is good.
Here comes the “but”: one major flaw exists. At the end of Zechariah, the audio and chapters get misaligned to the point that by the time you get to Matthew 1, the entire New Testament is misaligned by 3 and a half verses which makes it hard to follow along in your own reading, if you are stopping the play back at the end of chapters. Kind of frustrating to be honest.
Otherwise great to listen to, especially since, unlike the Word of Promise app, you can set Siri Shortcuts and Automations to start playing and pause the Bible on a schedule without having to stop what your doing to fumble around and hit play and pause and all that. Just wish they’d fix the alignment of the chapters.
Update: I removed the book from my device and downloaded a clean copy. Looks like they’ve fixed the chapter alignment issue I had. Yay!!

Historia
When linguist Andrew Dennison is yanked from his bed by the Secret Service and taken to a top secret facility in the desert, he has no idea he's been brought there to translate the words of an ancient demon. He joins pretty but cold veterinarian Sun Jones, eccentric molecular biologist Dr. Frank Belgium, and a hodge-podge of religious, military, and science personnel to try and figure out if the creature is, indeed, Satan. But things quickly go bad, and very soon Andy isn't just fighting for his life, but the lives of everyone on earth…

Interesting concept
Revisado: 09-06-21
I found the story to be unique and the narrator to be excellent. Listened to it in a single day as I kept wanting to know what happened next. However, if you are the type who needs to know what is real and what isn’t in your stories, you won’t find that here. But it’s well worth the listen otherwise.

Historia
Tender Branson, the last surviving member of the so-called Creedish Death Cult, is dictating his life story into the flight recorder of Flight 2039, cruising on autopilot at 39,000 feet somewhere over the Pacific Ocean. He is all alone in the airplane, which will crash shortly into the vast Australian outback. But before it does, he will unfold the tale of his journey from an obedient Creedish child and humble domestic servant to an ultra-buffed, steroid-and-collagen-packed media messiah.

Worth the credit
Revisado: 11-14-19
As a long time Palahnuik fan, I enjoyed this story. It wasn’t Fight Club, Diary, Lullaby or even Invisible Monster, but it was solidly Chuck doing what Chuck does best. The narrator is very good, reading the text with a pleasurable amount of emotionless sarcasm which is appropriate and necessary for the protagonist.
Lots of Fight Club easter eggs in this one, so if you’re paying attention you’ll hear the obligatory “corn flower blue” among many other Palahnuik catch phrases.
I’ve read the book and now listened to it and quite enjoyed the audio version. If you have a credit burning a hole in your pocket and want a fun romp through cults, service industry, televangelism, and good ol fashioned glory holes and men’s restroom stall poetry (“Here I sit broken hearted, I tried to shit but only farted”) this one might just be for you.

Erich von Däniken's Chariots of the Gods is a work of monumental importance---the first book to introduce the shocking theory that ancient Earth was visited by aliens. This world-famous best seller has withstood the test of time, inspiring countless books and films, including the author's own popular sequel, The Eye of the Sphinx.

Terrible
Revisado: 10-15-17
This audiobook is terrible. The performance is enough to just bore you to tears. The overall authorship is nonsensical and the ideas he presents are just ridiculous. Steer clear.

Drawing on their own cross cultural experience in global mission, O'Brien and Richards show how better self-awareness and understanding of cultural differences in language, time, and social mores allow us to see the Bible in fresh and unexpected ways. Getting beyond our own cultural assumptions is increasingly important for being Christians in our interconnected and globalized world. Learn to read Scripture as a member of the global body of Christ.

Revisado: 05-24-16
A lot of this book is already available for free on the JapanesePod101 podcast, so I feel kind of bummed that I paid for this audiobook, given that I've already listened to many sections of it. Buyer beware, the material is being offered for free by Innovative Language free elsewhere.
Just sayin...
