This was a fight to finish. Josh has a habit of repeating himself. I would be listening along and all the sudden be like, you already told this story.

Historia
Hillbilly Elegy is a passionate and personal analysis of a culture in crisis - that of white working-class Americans. The decline of this group, a demographic of our country that has been slowly disintegrating over 40 years, has been reported on with growing frequency and alarm but has never before been written about as searingly from the inside. J. D. Vance tells the true story of what a social, regional, and class decline feels like when you were born with it hung around your neck.

Hillbilly explained
Revisado: 01-09-25
Very good book. I will say it isn’t for everyone. We listened to this on a Christmas road trip. My wife lost interest after a couple of chapters. My mother and I stayed to the end. I really enjoyed it, but my mother said it seemed to drag on in sections. I found it to be a glimpse into a class I knew little about. J.D. did a wonderful job explaining what it was like growing up in a dysfunctional family unit. His relationship his grandmother was particularly interesting.

The US government has spent half the time covering up conspiracies as it has spent helping the American people. In Hidden History, you will see the amount of effort over the past fifty years that our government has dedicated to lying and covering up the truth to the world. Starting with the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, Don Jeffries chronicles a wide variety of issues that have plagued our country's history.

Historia
Once upon a time Rolling Stone contributing editor Erik Hedegaard became the last mainstream media journalist to interview Charles Manson. But the story he wrote for RS in 2013 didn’t begin to capture the strange and lingering effect Manson would have on his life. Now, in this Audible Original, you’ll hear about the making of that story, including audio of the phone calls Hedegaard received from Manson on a regular basis, interviews he conducted with Los Angeles District Attorney Vincent Bugliosi, as well as conversations he had with Manson Family members.

Interesting perspective on Manson
Revisado: 03-09-24
The author dives into Manson’s personality and his skills of manipulation to see how why he still to this day has a hold over so many. I have read several books about Manson and have not seen him covered in this manner before.

Historia
Thirty years ago, award-winning journalist Jon Ronson stumbled on the mystery of Carol Howe—a charismatic, wealthy former debutante turned white supremacist spokeswoman turned undercover informant. In 1995, Carol was spying on Oklahoma’s neo-Nazis for the government just when Timothy McVeigh blew up a federal building in Oklahoma City, killing 168 people.

Revisado: 04-19-23
I enjoyed the mixed media approach on this one. It was a mixture of historical audio storytelling and interviews. Jon peeps down some of the OKC rabbit holes and comes up with new information that I had not previously heard. I didn’t want this one to end.

Historia
More than 40 years ago Charles Manson and his mostly female commune killed nine people, among them the pregnant actress Sharon Tate. It was the culmination of a criminal career that author Jeff Guinn traces back to Manson’s childhood. Guinn interviewed Manson’s sister and cousin, neither of whom had ever previously cooperated with an author. Childhood friends, cellmates, and even some members of the Manson family have provided new information about Manson’s life. Guinn has made discoveries about the night of the Tate murders, answering unresolved questions.

Good listen, nice background facts

I enjoyed the information on the background players, i.e. the Golden Penetrators. The book mostly follows along the lines of Helter Skelter and follows the motives outlined in that book. Not much new here.

Historia
The very strange but nevertheless true story of the dark underbelly of a 1960s hippie utopia. Laurel Canyon in the 1960s and early 1970s was a magical place where a dizzying array of musical artists congregated to create much of the music that provided the soundtrack to those turbulent times. But there was a dark side to that scene as well. Many didn't make it out alive, and many of those deaths remain shrouded in mystery to this day.

Interesting information

The style of this book takes a minute to get used to, but once you do it is very enjoyable. There are too many coincidences detailed within this book for it not to have a connection. All of these musicians being related and connected is interesting to follow to say the least.

Historia
Over two grim nights in Los Angeles, the young followers of Charles Manson murdered seven people, including the actress Sharon Tate, then eight months pregnant. With no mercy and seemingly no motive, the Manson Family followed their leader's every order. Twenty years ago, when journalist Tom O'Neill was reporting a magazine piece about the murders, he worried there was nothing new to say. Then he unearthed shocking evidence of a cover-up behind the "official" story, including police carelessness, legal misconduct, and potential surveillance by intelligence agents.

Excellent investigation
Revisado: 01-04-23
Tom digs deep and finds a lot of interesting possibilities. He pretty much proves that Helter Skelter is a fantasy retelling of the facts. Highly recommend to anyone interested in the Manson murders.

This book follows the tragic life of a rock ideal and the complicated manner of his existence. It details the good times as well as the bad. It has the behind the scenes details of Kurt’s life from people who where there as well as thoughts recorded in Kurt’s personal journals. The reader does an excellent job especially when reading the passages detailing Kurt’s tragic final moments.
