narration ruins it

I tried to hang in there but quit partway through. The story probably wasn't bad but the narration truly was. The flat virtual voice distracts from the development of the characters and plot. Would like to try this one again with a human narrator.

not good, not good at all
Revisado: 09-02-24
I'm thinking this may have been written by AI, not just narrated by a computer. The storyline was predictable and the dialogue was ridiculous and historically hilarious. The computer-generated narration was flat with many pronunciation errors, I wish I had shut it off in the first ten minutes but somehow I couldn't stop listening wondering how much worse it would get. Just not worth your time.

Historia
We Band of Angelsis the story of women searching for adventure, caught up in the drama and danger of war. On the same day the Japanese Imperial Navy launched its surprise attack on Pearl Harbor in Hawaii, it also struck American bases in the Far East, chief among them the Philippines. That raid led to the first major land battle for America in World War II and, in the end, to the largest defeat and surrender of American forces.

News to me!
Revisado: 09-14-18
Although I have read extensive World War II history, this is the first time I have ever heard the story of these brave women who served as nurses on Bataan. Very worthwhile read if you are interested in the war in the Pacific or if you are a nurse.

Truth! Everyone needs to read this book!
Revisado: 09-14-18
A concise and compassionate glimpse into the challenges, dangers, and changes that have impacted health care in the U.S. over the last few decades. Dr Reilly is the kind of physician I encountered every day in the early years of my nursing career, but unfortunately there few left now. I appreciate that he is not overly sentimental about "the good old days", and acknowledges that the evolution of our system has brought important improvements. But not all change has been positive, and he uses the stories of patients to illustrate the dangers in our current health care "system", where patients are so easily lost in the clicking of boxes in the electronic record, and shuffling between providers who don't know them. The reality is that primary care is threatened, disconnected, and disrespected - and patients are paying a high price. An excellent read! An insider's perspective that you don't have to be an insider to understand.

Historia
Between 1861 and 1865, the clash of the greatest armies the Western hemisphere had ever seen turned small towns, little-known streams, and obscure meadows in the American countryside into names we will always remember. In those great battles, those streams ran red with blood-and the United States was truly born.

Professor Gallagher is easy to listen to. I have read extensively about Lincoln and the Civil War. This course helped put it all in context. I'm on my third listen and learn something new every time. The best of many Great Courses I have done.

Historia
Many political and cultural events sent shock waves through the Irish world in the 19th and early 20th centuries as Ireland gradually shook off the shackles of British rule. Alongside a long and painful political process arose one of the greatest flourishings of literature in modern times - a spirited discourse among those who sought to shape their nation's future, finding the significance of their bloody present intimately entwined with their legendary past.

An excellent course that connects history, literature, and culture. After listening, I'm going to try James Joyce again. After learning about the social and cultural context and the life of the author I will read it this time with a fresh perspective, and hopefully be able to appreciate it.

The Heart's Truth should be listened to at every nursing school in the country. It offers a powerful and moving portrait of what it means to be a nurse. In writing that is of the highest quality, the listener is swept up in the drama of nursing and the compassion with which it is perfused.

It is a shame that the poor quality, robotic audio totally distracts from a valuable story that could give a rich perspective on nursing.
