Like a Anime from the 90s

This was a simple story with very little weight given to the science of Scifi. not necessarily a bad thing, it's like watching a bad scifi from the 80s/90s, fun if you don't try to think about it too much.

Idealistic Hero isn't my flavor

Firstly, it's nice seeing a different kind of Hero form all the rockum sockum types. Dude is a fighter pilot/SF type, Combat vet, Test pilot, and is an Extroverted jock yet he worried about all the enemy soldiers trying to capture his ship... not going into detail but sometimes ideals without strength are just foolish. And I think that sums up the Hero a foolish idealist.

Fun realistic story

I enjoyed the story and the narrator was good as well. The tech level of the humans felt more realistic than some of the other similar stories. Also the behavior of the Republic forces felt... a little to idealistic. Honestly that is the most realistic thing about this book, humans making foolish moves based on biased views. the other major issue I have with this story is the unconnected story threads. Having chapters dedicated to characters that have little to no relevance in the book feels disappointing. Like knowing that its a setup for later doesn't help, I just hope the payoff is worth the wait.
