I really enjoyed the adventure presented in this book. The series with Russell and Holmes is sometimes a bit overtaken but descriptions but the authors use of language is wonderful.

New York Times best-selling author Laurie R. King has won sweeping critical acclaim and an impressive collection of awards for her writing. Although other writers have tried, no one has matched King's ability to capture the allure of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's legendary sleuth, Sherlock Holmes.

One of her best
Revisado: 12-08-22
The story presented in The Locked Rooms, was very interesting and drew me in as the story unfolded. The incorporation of the 1906 San Francisco earthquake and the appearance of Dashiell Hammett added a welcome realism to the story. The author created an atmosphere that took me to that city during a terrible episode of our history.

Historical characters added to an interesting story line. Especially Stead and Potter.
Combined with period language, I learned a great deal about the history of this period.

I enjoyed the new words I learned from this historical fiction. I keep a dictionary close by to check meaning and usage. I liked both main characters but it needs some interesting female characters. Needs some spice added into the mix.

Historia
Inspector Treadles, Charlotte Holmes’ friend and collaborator, has been found locked in a room with two dead men, both of whom worked with his wife at the great manufacturing enterprise she has recently inherited. Rumors fly. Had Inspector Treadles killed the men because they had opposed his wife’s initiatives at every turn? Had he killed in a fit of jealous rage because he suspected Mrs. Treadles of harboring deeper feelings for one of the men? To make matters worse, he refuses to speak on his own behalf, despite the overwhelming evidence against him.

Historia
One advantage of being caught up in a whirl of dress fittings and decisions about flower arrangements is that Charlotte Sloane has little time for any pre-wedding qualms. Her love for Wrexford isn't in question. But will being a wife - and a countess - make it difficult for her to maintain her independence - not to mention, her secret identity as famed satirical artist A. J. Quill? Despite those concerns, there are soon even more urgent matters to attend to during Charlotte and Wrexford's first public outing as an engaged couple.

Have grown fond of the characters so I enjoy the people as much as the plot. The narrator had difficulty doing American accents. It was painful to listen to.
