Historia
Clare and Henry have known each other since Clare was six and Henry was thirty-six. They were married when Clare was twenty-three and Henry was thirty-one. Impossible but true, because Henry is one of the first people diagnosed with Chrono-Displacement Disorder: periodically his genetic clock resets and he finds himself misplaced in time, pulled to moments of emotional gravity from his life, past and future.

Disappointing
Revisado: 06-23-04
This book has real potential, but was disappointing in so many ways. Some of the story I really liked, and I didn't even mind the jumbled order, I understood the reason behind it, due to the nature of the life of the 'traveler.' That is not the most significantly bothersome thing about the book. To me there were two points that I have to mention, in hopes that it will benefit someone making their choice for a reading selection.
Parts of the book were sensitive and touching. Other parts were abrupt, cheap, and tasteless. It was like two people were writing the book, one out of true understanding of impaired relationships, the other by someone who has written and read far too many cheap romance novels--especially where the sex scenes are concerned, but not only then.
As much as the story itself has issues, the readers are equally disappointing. Their voices reflect so little sensitivity to the characters, even when the story called for it. Inflection was often wrong and stressed entirely the wrong word or point in a sentence.
Sometimes a book choice is a bad fit. When that happens, I am sad. In such cases for myself, I try at least, to find something to benefit from in the story. In this one I am able to sense the strong point of the importance of living and loving in the here and now, of realizing who we are and how we affect the lives of those we love, and of doing things not just to please ourselves, but to carefully consider outcome in our behavior. For that, the story does a decent job. As far as the delivery of the story, it could have been far better.

Historia
While in Paris, Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon is awakened by a phone call in the dead of the night. The elderly curator of the Louvre has been murdered inside the museum, his body covered in baffling symbols. As Langdon and gifted French cryptologist Sophie Neveu sort through the bizarre riddles, they are stunned to discover a trail of clues hidden in the works of Leonardo da Vinci—clues visible for all to see and yet ingeniously disguised by the painter.

Abridged vs Unabridged
Revisado: 04-27-04
I was in the middle of reading this book when I needed to shift my reading to listening. I did not pay attention to whether this was abridged or not, and got the abridged version, and was disappointed. I still got the gist of the story, but found myself stealing minutes a day to go back and get what I had missed. The stuff they leave out is not essential to the plot, so I guess it doesn't really matter, but it does matter to the development of the character. Anyway, I enjoyed the book, and totally felt like I was reading the story of "Quest for the Holy Grail," it was great fun, and quite funny at times, though I don't think it was supposed to be. Well worth the money spent.
