Not The “ I need something to read” I was Looking For!
Revisado: 03-14-25
I loved this book. I bought it because I “just needed something” but quickly became totally engrossed in the story. It is loosely based on history with a good bit of storytelling…I hated that part, only because it wasn’t the history lesson I thought it was. You won’t be disappointed in this one.

What an amazing story of a remarkable woman. I was drawn in from the beginning and never lost my intrigue with the story. I bought this book mostly because I just needed something to read, but it quickly became one I couldn’t stop listening to. Two thumbs up!

Unless you are a fan of “f—- me” novels, let this one lie. I listened until the end, thinking there would be something worth waiting for but it was a letdown. Save the credit…get something else.

Historia
Lina Meisel, a retired librarian in Florida, is reading the newspaper one morning when she freezes. Her eyes lock on a photograph of a book she hasn’t seen in 65 years - a book she recognizes as The Book of Lost Names. The accompanying article discusses the looting of libraries by the Nazis across Europe during World War II - an experience Lina remembers well - and the search to reunite people with the texts stolen from them so long ago. The book in the photograph is one of the most fascinating cases.

Not What I Expected
Revisado: 10-11-23
First off, the narration was horrible…definitely detracted from the story. The story was more of a love story and really had very little to do with the lost names in the book. Overall, I would say I was disappointed with this read.

Wasn’t Sure But Loved It
Revisado: 05-21-23
When I first started the book I wasn’t sure if I would enjoy it but by the 2nd chapter I was sold. I’m not sure if the fostering details were realistic and I did think about that as I was listening …maybe they’re spot on…don’t know and I guess it didn’t make that much difference to me ultimately. Very enjoyable to listen to…this author is always a good storyteller.

Quirky and Enjoyable
Revisado: 03-31-22
Really enjoyed the easy storyline of this book. The twists and turns were enough to keep me guessing but not so much as to put me on edge. Definitely not an intense read but rather a good book with interesting characters, good narration and an intriguing story. Definitely worth the credit.

Meh
Revisado: 11-02-21
Pick something else. I typically like stories by Catherine Ryan Hyde but this one lacked substance of any kind. The narrator made the characters sound like old feeble women. I listened because I bought it, but wouldn’t recommend this book at all.
