I don’t know
Revisado: 10-13-24
Narrator is great, but i had to increase the speed to 1.3x . It sounds like they slowed down the recording.
I did listen to the entire thing, so it wasn’t terrible nor bad. It did become a struggle in the last couple chapters to keep track of what was happening. And harder to keep going.
I suppose besides so much descriptions of sex, the other issue i have with the book is the lack is growth. I don’t know, maybe it’s too realistic. Maybe i have the benefit of seeing this story through the lens of everything I’ve gained from the decades of fiction (books, film, etc) since this was published but i feel like the main character makes mistakes that were would all see as obvious…
All good though. Give it a listen

Historia
Harry August is on his deathbed. Again. No matter what he does or the decisions he makes, when death comes, Harry always returns to where he began, a child with all the knowledge of a life he has already lived a dozen times before. Nothing ever changes. Until now. As Harry nears the end of his 11th life, a little girl appears at his bedside. "I nearly missed you, Doctor August", she says. "I need to send a message". This is the story of what Harry does next, and what he did before, and how he tries to save a past he cannot change and a future he cannot allow.

Good not great.
Revisado: 10-06-24
A bit slow at first and it can be confusing to follow when you suddenly jump to reading about one of the other lives. Otherwise i managed without difficulty to make it to the end.
The ending is the only other complaint i have. I feel like it could have worked better with one small change. I won’t say what it is here. I just feel like the hero monologing about his victory destroyed the much better ending that i thought had happened. Since it is at the end though, i can rewrite this small modification in my head

Is this narrated by a computer
Revisado: 03-05-22
Ignore my rating on the stories, audible forced me. I never made it into the first story because the narration is not good here. The narration is dull and the pacing is unnatural. There is no intonation or enthusiasm in this reading. It’s like a computer is reading it. I can’t pay attention to it .

I don't know what I just read.
Revisado: 06-28-19
It's not bad, it's not good. I've never read anything in this genre before so I'm not sure how to judge it. It was like... watching an episode of a tv series. One episode out 120. It was interesting enough, that I didn't "Change the Channel" but there's not a whole lot of plot and character development, etc, that can happen in a 20 minute episode. You wouldn't call one episode of a tv show a "complete story", at least in general, a single episode doesn't usually stand on its own.

Historia
At present people perceive the world full of many calamities and above all with much uncertainty. This is due to the worrying deterioration of society, economy, and security. The future of people, as well as that of humanity itself, is not so clear. This, of course, can undermine the desire to stay ahead, because some think that there is not much that can be done to improve the situation.

Pretty much everything. Just ask Brit, who has jumped around in time with such abandon that she has to coexist with multiple versions of herself. Horrible ending
Revisado: 06-24-18
I love the series but the ending of this one was bad. The way one of the main characters behaves towards another in the end is just brutally terrible. I hate to be vague but no spoilers.
This is made worse because it seemed out of character. And maybe it isn’t but it just makes this character a villain to me. Just completely heartless. Completely meaningless. And the way this character has essentially blamed and convicted the other great character for a crime he didn’t commit and it was the accusers fault that he was involved...
I don’t know. Wish I could be less vague but I cannot. won’t be reading this one a second time just because I hate the ending and the character and found myself wishing harm on that character. Maybe Todd will resurrect and this character will get what is deserved.

Any additional comments?
Difficult to give a good opinion without spoiling the story. Like many others, I found the main character to be kind of dumb. In the beginning it was ok because of the trauma. But he often ran head first into places that obviously weren't right and downright dangerous. No one with common sense (much less intelligence) would have made the decisions he did.
While I get the multiverse (loved the first couple seasons of Sliders which I thought of the entire time), I did not buy the plot twist at the end. I just don't know if I agree if it would work that way. something worth discussing, but it bothered me the entire time.
If it does work that way, then why didn't happen with the first traveler.
And if it does work that way, the solution at the end will not work and the protagonist should be smart enough to realize that this problem is going to follow them for the rest of their lives.

Historia
A middle-aged man returns to his childhood home to attend a funeral. He is drawn to the farm at the end of the road, where, when he was seven, he encountered a most remarkable girl, Lettie Hempstock. Forty years earlier, a man committed suicide in a stolen car at this farm at the end of the road. Like a fuse on a firework, his death lit a touchpaper and resonated in unimaginable ways. The darkness was unleashed, something scary and thoroughly incomprehensible to a little boy. And Lettie - magical, comforting, wise beyond her years - promised to protect him, no matter what.

Strange but really good.
Revisado: 11-18-16
What made the experience of listening to The Ocean at the End of the Lane the most enjoyable?
The story was too short. But at the same time it was long enough. I wanted more from the story, but I am happy the author didn't start adding boring things to the story to make it longer. It was an odd story. Very wonderful, but I was not expecting it based on the description. I don't know. The one thing I have is that I couldn't really believe the age of the main character. The entire time, even though the narrator repeatedly mentioned that he was 7, I kept thinking of him as being 9 or 10 or maybe even 11. His character was just... not like any 7 year old I am familiar with. I don't know. I am happy to live with my delusion that he was 9-11 years old.
Any additional comments?
The one thing is that the story kept leaving questions in my mind. It was sometimes hard to follow. Like when characters switched and so forth. I don't know if it is the author's fault or the narrator (wait... the author is the narrator). Sometimes I wished I had had the book so I could read the written word to see what was being said.

Great Book
Revisado: 11-16-16
At times the story could be a bit meh. But get through those brief parts because the story and especially the bittersweet ending is incredible. It will provoke a meditation on what it means to be human or alive or something.
