Historia
It was four o'clock in the morning. A young woman pushed through the hospital doors. Staff would later say they thought the woman was a new mother, returning to her child - and in a way, she was. She walked into the nursery, where a baby girl lay sleeping. The infant didn't wake when the woman placed her gently in the shopping bag she had brought with her. There is CCTV footage of what happened next, and most Australians would have seen it, either on the internet or the news.

Historia
After a long and eventful life, Allan Karlsson ends up in a nursing home, believing it to be his last stop. The only problem is that he's still in good health, and in one day, he turns 100. A big celebration is in the works, but Allan really isn't interested (and he'd like a bit more control over his vodka consumption). So he decides to escape. He climbs out the window in his slippers and embarks on a hilarious and entirely unexpected journey, involving, among other surprises, a suitcase stuffed with cash.

Historia
Danica Roem made national headlines when—as a transgender former frontwoman for a metal band and a political newcomer—she unseated Virginia's most notoriously anti-LGBTQ 26-year incumbent Bob Marshall as state delegate. But before Danica made history, she had to change her vision of what was possible in her own life. Doing so was a matter of storytelling: During her campaign, Danica hired an opposition researcher to dredge up every story from her past that her opponent might seize on to paint her negatively.

I appreciate when the narrator IS the subject of the autobiography, but in this case I don't think ANYONE else could have pulled it off. I felt like she was telling her stories directly to me, like she was in the living room, making me laugh, cry and appreciate her through the narrative.

Historia
Three women are lost in a single morning - one at a commuter train, one at a school, one while walking her dog in the woods. The police think the women are making some kind of political statement by setting themselves on fire. But Cassandra knows better. You won’t rest until Cassandra, a mom and former anthropologist, solves the mystery of these fiery deaths. Part mystery, part science fiction, part a suburban-domestic novel, Only the Women Are Burning asks important questions about women in contemporary, suburban lives.

Historia
They are three brothers, all navy men, who end up coincidentally and extraordinarily at the epicenter of three of the war's most crucial moments. Bill is picked by Roosevelt to run his first map room in Washington. Benny is the gunnery and antiaircraft officer on the USS Enterprise, one of the only carriers to escape Pearl Harbor and by the end of 1942 the last one left in the Pacific to defend against the Japanese. Barton, the youngest and least distinguished of the three, is shuffled off to the Navy Supply Corps because his mother wants him out of harm's way.

Mesmerizing
Revisado: 04-13-18
What made the experience of listening to The Jersey Brothers the most enjoyable?
This story is multi-faceted, and the author carries the reader/listener seamlessly through transitions from one brother's story to the others. The anticipation builds throughout in an exciting but careful way.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Jersey Brothers?
The author opens with a scene from her childhood, long after the events of the book. It is wrapped up beautifully at the end when she returns to that time, when this story of her father's generation impacted her own life.
What about Cassandra Campbell’s performance did you like?
The narrator's ability to create the various voices, without breaking the rhythm of the story or sounding too "put on" was remarkable.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The whole BOOK moved me.
Any additional comments?
I'm not ordinarily a fan of war stories, and I didn't choose this book because of a love of that genre, but it captivated me entirely.
